Walt Disney Studios to make "Lion King" prequel with the director of Moonlight

EXCLUSIVE: The Walt Disney Studios has set Oscar winner Barry Jenkins to direct the studio’s follow-up to the 2019 blockbuster The Lion King. Jeff Nathanson, who scripted the last installment, is back in the fold and has completed an initial draft of script. Jenkins won the Oscar for scripting the Best Picture winner Moonlight and was nominated for adapting If Beale Street Could Talk (he directed both).
The film will continue with the photo-realistic technology that director Jon Favreau used in the 2019 film and 2016’s The Jungle Book. There is no release date set for The Lion King follow-up or for the production start, but it is understandably a top priority for Sean Bailey’s division after the last film grossed $1.6 billion worldwide.

I'd much rather have a Gaston war prequel. Make it the most Un-PC PG hyper masculine musical since "Song of the South". Complete with battles, pillaging, drinking, eating, hunting, wrestling, and widows! Call it " Springtime for Gaston"!

I guess this could work if you do it about Scar and Mufasa

Now THAT was a fricking sequel. I think there should be more Rosencrantz and Guildenstern type movies. Whenever I’m watching a classic, I usually imagine a sequel with minor characters as leads.

It’ll be about a lions climb through the oppressive systemic racism of the African animal culture and the evil elephant Donald Trunk to rise as Kings lol.

Song of the South is in no way masculine.

You really need someone to spell it out for you?
Disney is in a world of hurt.
Movies underperforming , theme parks on life support, and Black Widow has just been delayed ( cancelled ? ) for theatric release.
My post was in response to the ' they should go out of business ' comment.
