They haven't cast as female yet, just that they're open to it. Which maybe if you have a Tilda Swinton type but I can't see it otherwise.
It is a little funny that Rowling pissed off a good chunk of her initial fanbase over her position of trans folks and now she's going to piss off another large chunk of her fanbase with gender/race swapping casting.
Unfortunate given the content of the source material and some of the other actors/actresses tied to the production.
I just hope if it doesn't pan out that it doesn't take out quality programming at HBO with it.

I believe it.

Even if it isn’t a female, why are they auditioning females in the first place?

I would imagine just so they can say they did. Possibly were required to for DEI?
I mentioned in another thread that I'm not a Harry Potter books fanboy, but I think this would be a huge mistake and kill a ton of interest even for the non die hards. I know I would skip out on it if they did cast a woman. Just would show how dumb the decision making is for the show overall.

Exactly - they'll have to bend over backward to tell a Cruella or Wicked type backstory to justify (or explain away) the villain's evil actions.
JKR had a backstory in the books that explain why he was evil. He was a damn rape baby (via love potion) who was abandoned by his father and his mother died soon after forcing him to grow up in a shitty British orphanage where he was no doubt bullied. Dumbledore even admits he knew he had serious anger issues and did frick all to help guide him.

Fair enough - I only have secondhand exposure to a family who all read the books and watched the movies - I was around, but never sat down and paid attention to any of it, really, until this next generation started watching the old films.

Original source is apparently a leaker named DanielRPK who while is pretty solid on marketing leaks like when trailers will drop he has a pretty shaky record at best with actual plot and casting information
This is the same source that started the Hunter Schefer playing Zelda rumor that turned out to be Bs

Classic internet nonsense
Rumor 1: They may be interviewing both men and women for Voldermort
Transforms to:
Woman cast as Voldemort

And rage bait YouTubers and sites report it as true or heavily likely so they can get a bunch of angry views and clicks

Stupidly, the UK pushes this crap. Forcing casting calls for both men and women for a clearly male role.
But Lady Vulvamort is hilarious, I don't care who you are.
*And yes, because we've already got Black Snape Moan, the claims of Lady Vulvamort can't be outright dismissed.

An 'outright lie'?
OR
is reportedly...
Reports can be wrong.
How do YOU know for a 100% fact that it's a lie?

Because I read the article.....
quote:
According to Comicbook, the casting process for the franchise’s most feared villain is open to actors “of any gender”, raising the possibility of a female Dark Lord.
