Scarlett Johansson is taking a bite out of a new blockbuster. The actor is in talks to join Universal’s new Jurassic World movie, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Universal is moving quickly on the film, which has a July 2, 2025 release date. Gareth Edwards is directing the new Jurassic World, which has a script from Jurassic Park scribe David Koepp. Edwards stepped into the role after David Leitch exited following a short attachment to the project.

EXCLUSIVE: After recently tapping David Koepp to pen the script, Universal Pictures new Jurassic World pic is gaining some serious momentum as it has zeroed in on a familiar face to direct. While it is early days on the negotiation front, sources tell Deadline David Leitch is in early talks to direct the next film in the billion dollar franchise. The film is set to bow on July 2, 2025.

The new movie will be a completely fresh take on a Jurassic era with Jurassic World castmembers Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard not expected to return, nor the original trilogy’s thespians Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern and Sam Neill.

You can’t keep a good T-Rex down.

Although it’s been two years since the last time dinosaurs roamed the Earth in 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion, Universal Pictures has hardly kept it biggest franchise trapped in amber.

The studio is deep into the development of an all-new Jurassic World movie and has David Koepp back at the keyboard. Koepp was the writer of the original 1993 Jurassic Park, famously directed by Steven Spielberg, and its sequel, 1997’s Jurassic Park: The Lost World.

There is no director on board, but Frank Marshall, the veteran and celebrated producer who oversaw the Jurassic World trilogy, is back producing, as is another Jurassic vet, Patrick Crowley. Spielberg will executive produce via his Amblin Entertainment banner.

It is unclear what form the relaunch is taking. It is known to be launching a “new Jurassic era,” per sources, with an all-new storyline. That would seem to rule out the return of the characters played by Jurassic World stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. And it seems characters featured in the original Jurassic Park movies, played by Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, would not be involved.

Well that’s better

I would love for this to be a sort of survival/horror type movie set right after the first one with a team from Ingen trying to locate the embryos off the original island. Make the dinosaurs feel like actual animals again and not mascots

Jurassic Park works best when it's Horror in my opinion.

I'll watch this, but only because I'm a sucker for dinosaur movies. That being said, the last one and a half JW movies have sucked major penis. So I may have to see this once it's streaming somewhere instead of in theaters.

Is he, though?
Right? Sure, he worked Jurassic Park into an excellent script, but the general story is great because of Crichton.

Give me a hammered Muldoon blowing up raptors with a rocket launcher and Wu getting eviscerated by the previously mentioned raptors

Or at the very least just don't have some superhero type lead that Pratt was. Normal people chased by dinosaurs.

Maybe they'll actually have the dinosaurs loose in the real world like they have hinted at over and over but done nothing with except for that small part in LW chasing the T-rex through San Francisco.

Koepp is the guy the T-Rex eats in The Lost World in San Diego when he’s trying to run inside the store. They have him listed as “unlucky bastard” in the credits.

I’ll watch this movie for sure.

hopefully this statement is true, if so, it may be good.

everyone from originals are too old and the new ones were very forgettable so an all new cast sounds great

The T-Rex scene definitely scared me as a kid.

And I definitely got jump scared the first time I saw this

He was also the one who wrote the second one.

And it might be just me but I felt the whole thing tonally left the rails when it diverged from the book entirely in the last act.

The last Jurassic Park movie was one of the worst movies of the last 20 years and that’s saying something.

oh c'mon now, you mean a swarm of locusts that catch on fire, but never die, and stay on fire forever, as they fly all over the place, then quickly add a few dinosaurs walking around just in the last 5 minutes, was going a step to far

The whole thing was rushed and kind of mailed in.

Crichton had to hurry and pump out a sequel due to the success and demand from the first. Koepp and the studio slapped it together quickly and Spielberg basically directed it over the phone.

It’s a flawed film, but I still enjoy it.
