I thought that was the point of him leaving, to get away from the misery/pain of the lake/son.

OR he left because he thought it would save his ex wife.

Please, sir. There is no way you had the ending pegged.

Semi spoilers ahead.

I paused near the end of episode 2 and told my wife my prediction for the bad guy. I was correct, but it wasn’t based on “clues” given in the show. It was based on how TV shows are cast and written.

When Bana went to talk to the cocktail waitress, I predicted what she was going to say about the girl’s father. Thought I was wrong for a second, but then she said something like, “Oh, yeah. One more thing.” Bingo.

I also accurately predicted what would happen during Bana and Neil’s meeting on the deck at the end. There’s a reason they’re meeting out on a deck.

It was also pretty obvious what the source of tension was between Bana and the deer hunter guy. Hunter either participated in the deed or witnessed it. Didn’t know the details until the ex-wife so stupidly spilled it to her new husband.

They did fool me with the Indian. They kept suggesting he was up to something. I thought maybe he was in on the drugs. But I guess it was a fake out/distraction.

Who was buying all those drugs, and how did the local cops not know there was a massive drug market under their noses?

I finished this a couple nights ago. All in all i enjoyed it and the scenery was absolutely gorgeous.

I kept thinking Sam Niell was somehow in on something just by the way he was acting and the fact that it was Sam Neill. I did also think something could be up with the Indian dude but that was just a red herring.

I do wish we would’ve gotten more out of Naya’s Rx and that whole subplot. That ended up being a whole lot of nothing with him simply being arrested before causing any real trouble.

My only real gripe, as i said before and someone else mentioned too, was how easily Kyle and Naya always found clues or evidence, or how they always managed to show up just in time to save the day. So many things had a deux ex machina feel to them where they walk right up to a needed piece of evidence, or Naya gets stuck DEEP inside a cave and Kyle finds her with no issue. Or Gael’s dad shows up at the cabin and Kyle randomly comes home in the middle of the day. Etc.

But i enjoy one-off series like this where it’s a complete story with a limited (and not too high) number of episodes. We need more stuff like this and American Primeval, and fewer shows that are just trying to crank out season after season IMO.

I did like the ending with Kyle accepting that he was massively depressed and the Indian dude convincing him that his son was with him no matter where he goes and that he didn’t have to stay in the park to carry Caleb with him. His acceptance of that was a cool resolution.

I do suspect Jill and her husband will most likely divorce shortly after the show ends though. Although if my wife confessed something like that to me I’m not sure I would hold that against her.

A second season has been okayed.

I predict it will start with an TV news announcement that the body of long lost Sean Sanderson has been discovered by hikers.

Well shite.

I’ll watch it. But I much prefer a solid, complete story/series. Oh well.

are there any cop shows where the lead cop isn't a drunk who breaks all of the rules, can't get along with anyone else, has at least 1 failed marriage and tends to stay on the brink of suspension, termination or a breakdown?

Is this really that far off the mark, though? It's a tried and true Hollywood cop trope. Your description reminded me immediately of Heat.

I enjoyed this series, just finished it.

I thought it was pretty good. Had a serious Longmire vibe. Much better than most stuff made these days.

Finally finished it. Nice redirection, the cops/ranges who seem like they could be corrupt in the beginning, aren't and the one guy who seemed like a good guy, wasn't.

always follow the money, i guess?

And Turner is SUCH a good guy he got mad at the wife for hiring someone to kill the guy who killed his son?

The very beginning of the series with the people climbing.. i don't get the fascination with that stuff.

I think he got mad at her because he felt like she betrayed him. She went behind his back and did something that pertain to their son, but he knew nothing about it.

I think it’s more than the betrayal for going around him. He was angry/hurt by her actions. You have to really dive deep to get those reasons.

So he told her he wanted more time to verify because the video didn’t show Sanderson actually killing their son. The show even gives another example of an innocent person getting killed when people blamed him for that girls disappearance. But it goes deeper.

After Sanderson is killed he could never be brought to justice. No one else could even know he killed their son because it would raise suspicion back on them. And Kyle wanted to know everything about it and now he couldn’t.

Kyle hated Shane and knew he couldn’t ultimately be trusted. And he was ultimately proven right. Now they were in bed with him and Kyle hated that.

Kyle wanted his wife protected and now by her own actions he couldn’t do that completely. She turned the murder of their son into something they could eventually be punished for.

I think it also hurt his ego as a father and husband that she went to Shane to do something he wasn’t ready to do YET. Kyle wanted this guy to have his day in court and if that didn’t work out then I think he would have killed him himself no matter what.

And the ending is a bit of the kicker. Remember the wrongful death investigation. I think Kyle eventually says he would cooperate and admit he was wrong to the investigator so she would quit snooping into it. Because now there was another death involved that could be seen as murder with Shane. That’s an indirect result of what his wife did but it’s the kind of thing he had to be worried about. It has to eat at him knowing the family of the man who killed their son could now profit off it and nothing he could do.

The writing in this show isn’t perfect but it’s very very good.

I finished this up today and didn't care for the ending also.

The last episode was more like a prologue. I really didn't like how the baby daddy stuff ended. It was a convoluted mess with a character although likeable I didn't really care about one way or the other. It would have been more interesting if Shane was the baby daddy.

I did enjoy the series in totality. The characters were all developed well enough and likeable. Also, I enjoyed that it didn't have all the senseless Netflix sex/ gay sex and the "JFCs" inserted.
