Definitely this

This show was fantastic. I was really pissed when it wasn't picked up for a second season.

Lots mentioned already but Master of None w Aziz Ansari.

Another wasn't necessarily too soon, there just wasn't enough of each season... Luther w Idris Elba. I could've watched 50 more. 20 is a crime.

Two that fox screwed up after their first season:

The Grinder
Grandfathered

Both were really good and hilarious with really good casts only to get whacked.

Very few. Americans tend to take a show with any degree of success and run it into the ground.

I appreciate the Brit shows that run 1 to 3 seasons/series and shut it down before they run out of ideas and introduce babies or have cousin Oliver jump a shark.

I enjoyed the finder and thought it got canceled too early. Last work of Michael Clark Duncan

HBO Rome was superb but only 2 seasons. Both high quality but season 2 way too compressed. Season 2 stories would have been covered better with an additional couple seasons. Should have been at least 4 seasons. Still excellent even if only 2 seasons. If you have never seen, you won't regret watching it.

As I understand, that was the original idea. I understand the showmakers found out it was going to be cancelled because it was too expensive, so they crammed a ton of stuff into season 2, trying to make the best of the situation.

I also heard GoT showmakers learned from that, and did their best to maximize production costs... limit how many different sets needed to be made, film as much in those sets as you could, etc. Rome was a great concept, but they did it more on an 'epic film' production system, which was a lot more inefficient than a series.

Yes Rome was pre-cancelled when, IIRC, the BBC backed out, which left HBO holding the bag 100% and they couldn't afford it. There may have also been some disaster that led to set destruction. So John Milius and company just took like 3-4 seasons and crammed it into season 2, so the show would have an ending.

Rome is proto-GOT. Without Rome, there is no GOT.

Hell, season 1 of Rome has better production quality than season 1 of GOT (if you rewatch it, you'll see how cheap it is compared to later seasons).

Without Carnivale, there is no Rome. It'd still be nice if HBO would quit cancelling great series after two seasons.

Totally different scope and themes.

Rome is literally proto-GOT.

Carnivale was just getting going though. I did a rewatch a few years ago and just left like this:

EVERY. TIME.
