Trying to come up with a list of good movies for my boys to watch...

..not stuff like The Incredibles or MCU (which we have) or classic Star Wars or Indiana Jones. But rather good movies with strong male lead(s) and a solid message...historical if possible.
They’re 11 and 8 so I don’t want to go over the top with language or sex.
Was thinking Apollo 13 and stuff like that. We tried The Right Stuff but it was a bit too long and drawn out.
Suggestions?
BTW they both loved The Final Countdown.

If I had watched Braveheart when I was a little younger I may have been a different person then I am today.

Thanks!
Hoosiers, Last Samurai and Sgt York are excellent choices. Patton and a Crimson Tide may be lost on them at this age.
Don’t want to cry over Old Yellar again...

I shall resist my base nature and refrain from suggesting Deep Throat.
Instead I shall go with a very overlooked, but quite fun, movie. Sky High.
Positive messages. Kurt Russell having a ball as a clueless super hero. Two Canadian improv players having the time of their lives. Its a solid family movie.

The Earthling with William Holden and Ricky Schroeder.
Amazing movie that has been completely forgotten.

quote:
Diagnosed with a terminal form of cancer, Patrick Foley (William Holden) has returned to his native Australia to die in the peace and quiet of the wilderness. His simple plan is complicated, however, when he meets Shawn Daley (Ricky Schroder), a young boy who has just lost his parents in an accident, and takes him under his wing. Located far from any civilization, Patrick continues on his mission, but decides to teach Shawn the skills that he'll need to survive after his mentor is dead.

Miracle
Not only is it a great story in itself, it gives you a reason to explain why it was such a big deal.
I also liked The Rookie.
and if there is a documentary out there somewhere on Bobby Dodd you should get them to watch it.
