Unlike others, I had no problem with the climax/short showing of the bad guys. I think that was sort of the point.

Exactly. The point of the movie was the relationship between the girl and the marshall, and their journey.

I absolutely loved this movie. I was interested from start to finish.

I completely agree. This was the most fun I have ever had at a movie. I saw some earlier reviews on this thread so maybe my expectations were lowered a bit going in, but I really did enjoy the entire thing.

I went with my dad (doesn't get out much disabled/diabetic/obese) and cousin. Dad had us rolling all the way up until the movie started until the time we got back home. He was bitching about paying 6 bucks for popcorn, wore a jacket to sneak in water/M&M's, made wise-cracks about having to 'run a marathon' to get back to the vehicle, etc.

Don't get me wrong, the movie had several comical moments, but had nothing on the rest of the night.

Just got in from seeing it. There were only a few differences from the original. I personally thought the original was funnier, however the scene with him kicking the Indian kids was money. I liked the ending to the original best because it summed up their relationship better, I think. Bummed that the chick lost her arm. Overall, good movie.

I liked it it exceeded my expectations of an average western.

***SPOILERS****

There was some uncomfortable moments IMO with Damon and the girl. I mean the line "I don't know whether to spank you or try to steal a kiss".

Could very well have been the purpose behind a lot of that dialogue but I still dislike uncomfortable moments.

Saw the movie today and absolutely loved it. The performances are all superb and the movie is VERY faithful to the Charles Portis book. The last 10 minutes or so of the movie come almost word for word from the book.

Great movie!

Meh

I wanted more "grit", less comedy.

Yeah it was a bit lighter than it could have been.

The dialogue and one liners were great.

Yeah, they were, but you had to be quick. I'll go see it again b/c I'm sure I missed some.

You definitely had to pay attention. Bridges' mutterings were hard to pick up sometimes.

The day I was going to watch the movie I found out that Charles Portis was born here in El Dorado, AR. I would think the town would make a big deal about it but hardly anyone knows this fact.

Also, I loved the movie.

Finally got to see this, really enjoyed it. The dialogue was great, Sorkinesque. I knew Bridges would carry his role well. I was very impressed with Steinfeld, character could've come off annoying as hell, but she made her so likable. Damon's Lebeef started out a little off, but I really liked him as the movie went on. I liked Barry Pepper a lot for his brief stint in this movie. This movie will rank as one of my favorite westerns...great one liners, dark, but not overly so, likable characters, fantastic cinematography, emotional.

SPOILERS....

Damn, was bummed/surprised by the huge downer this movie ended on.
