Re watching the premiere now. Got to do some digging

I'm rewatching E1 right now - did anyone catch the line in the car where Rust tells Marty he "contemplates the moment in the garden - the idea of allowing your own crucifixion"?.
Anyone think that is him? I think he is fore-shadowing himself. He doesn't protest when the two detectives try to pin the rap on him.
That just hit me like a ton of bricks.

That look the two black guys give each other after they asked Marty when the last time he talked to rust and Marty says he hasn't talked to him in 10 years. I think they either know he is lying or rust in his interview told them something different. Hmm

I didn't pick up on that; definitely need to do a rewatch.

Just saw this on reddit. Looks like Hart's daughter drew a picture of the symbol that has appeared on the victims.

I also agree about MM's dialogue being too contrived. But there is part of me that just says they want you to think he is that intelligent. So I'll go with that.
I would agree but I had a guy who worked for me who had Asperger’s syndrome. The kid was super intelligent but he was extremely blunt and did not understand social cues. He was also an atheist and I was forced into some very similar dialogues with him on rides to work. I had some Marty moments where it was really "would you just shut the frick up! Don't speak anymore while you are in the car...or ever". So i can see where the dialogue under the right conditions with that type of personality could happen in real life. Unlikely, but possible.

Doubtful. Rust is asexual.
Also it doesn't really fit the character profile - I suppose he could get drunk and slip up, but I don't see it.
I don't think he is asexual; he just isn't concerned with sex. I don't think he will have sex with Maggie. Rust wants to be around the family he lost and Maggie wants the husband Marty use to be. They have a relationship as this goes on, but i don't think it will ever be sexual.

Yeah pretty sure Marty wants to get busted. Based on the admission that he's "fricked up". He probably just wants relief at this point
I don't know that he wants to get caught, but he is so wrapped up in his lies he doesn't know what the truth is anymore. He has taken it from a side piece to mental polygamy.
I also think Tuttle is going to be a Manson type character. He isn't going to be the killer, but he is going to manipulate his cult followers to do the crimes. It also drives his religious/political motivations as these "satanic" killings are driving the politicians to form a task force that targets anything anti-Christian.

It's been just as character driven as plot driven so far.
Pretty much exactly what I said

the "case" is just as much a part of the story as the relationship between Marty and Rust

Plus he's a big dude. Can't tell on the mower, but in BWE, he towered over everybody as George Remus. Damn good actor, I'd say.
What's with the BWE and Wire actors?
I'm halfway expecting Chalky White to show up as some ex-con talking about Dora Lange's sweet jelly.
The underage hooker is a regular character on the Cinemax show Banshee. She's naked about 75% of the time on that show.

In other Pizzolatto news, his novel "Galveston" is coming to the big screen.
There is also some insight into potential True Detective story lines for future seasons.

This show is great, and I love that it takes place in Louisiana. Total opposite of that boring steaming pile of dung "Treme". Can't wait for the next episode.

Didn't realize Nic Pizzalatto grew up in Lake Charles. bio says his moms lives in Sulphur, My hometown. love to see some local boys make it big. having grown up there you can see how great a job he did translating what that world feels like onto the screen.
