good find, but reggie also looks like that drawing if you see the clip from the full season trailer when he is on the ground being apprehended and he has a skinnier face like the drawing

I think the idea that he's deep undercover is a long shot (at this point, I'd suspect he gained notoriety with the Dorie Lange bust ("hero shot") and could never really work undercover after that)...but it is possible and something that had occurred to me as well.
agreed. its an interesting idea, but I think we will eventually see some scenes from 2002 that depict the "falling out with Marty and going off the grid". More than likely he did just become totally disillusioned by whatever political fallout happened with the case and potentially other cases/corruption at CID he knew about and just walked away and gave in to fatalism and alcohol.
I do think the story we are seeing now as interesting as it is in 1995 is just backstory and showing us who these characters are. the story won't even really begin until the 1995 case is "closed"

I'm beginning to think more and more that rust is trying to find out what the detectives know and try to solve the case himself..
Sounds very likely. I wonder in the present day if we'll see Marty and Rust come together to work on the case after not seeing each other for 10 years.

Or he could still be obsessed with this case. Knowing that they did not get the guy, he has been continuing the investigation in his own version of undercover (being in the open can sometimes be the best cover). Maybe we eventually see his room and it is covered with pics of dead girls from the past 17 years. He does seem to know a shite load more than the two interviewing detectives.

this WILL happen in some capacity. not sure if they will work on the case together (I think they will), but we will definitely see them interact in the present (2012) timeline.

Agreed. I'd be very surprised if he was still in law enforcement in any capacity.

Has anyone mentioned Rust turbo sucking the cigs as if trying to speed up the inevitable?
Hurts my lungs just watching him

they better catch the bad guy next ep in the past, then. there isn't that much time for this left in the "present"

There is plenty of time for a shot of his room. Looks like shite is going down next episode, and there is a killer on the loose in the present, so I hope that there will be at least an episode or 2 in the present (or future, technically, compared to the interviews).

Will happen. the real show starts once the case is "closed"…they will have four episodes left after next show. they will need to spend some time on the political aftermath/fallout from them "solving the case", then spend some time in 2002 to show the events leading to them not being partners anymore/Rust dropping out of the force and then my guess we get the final two episodes more on the present story with them working together in some capacity, or at least interacting.

Are we still discussing the theory that Rust is in prison?

Nope

Idk, but a number of people were discussing this for awhile. I was hoping that it was put to rest.
Also, I don't think Rust is a rig worker.

they routinely allow prisoners to drink like a fish, live behind a bar and carry weapons?

I think you are confused. I never thought Rust was in prison for anything. I was just stating the fact that a few people on this board [other forums] have this theory.
