if he is doing one interview as Marty and one interview as "Rust" on his "off days" I would say that is trauma
You've been on this thoery before you've even seen the show. I'm not seeing it.

some interesting quotes from the preacher...
"he knew you thought you didn't know yourself"
"that face you see isn't your own"
"this world is a vail"
Good observation. You really don't understand Rust's philosophy (and therefore his character) unless you see it's the flipside of Christianity.

What's wrong with what he said there? If you aren't a christian, it makes complete sense.
I'll be honest. Everything he said at the tent made complete sense to me.

that convo at the tent brought back so many memories from high school

I've seen both episodes and I'm about to watch the rest of 3.
I'm not saying "book it" but I am saying its a viable theory that Marty is traumatized by the case and perhaps something that happens to his daughter and eventually splits into to different personalities. each personality doesn't know he is the other one....hence then "I don't sleep, I dream"...hence the stilted dialogue by Rust who represents an opposite point of view...Rust also alludes to a daughter who died...his past is foggy (several files are still "classified")...he's not married anymore...just saying
I really hope I'm wrong.

Everything Rust said under that tent is something people think about daily. But, don't have the gall to say in public.

lulz I'm a christian and what Rust the athiest says makes complete sense to me. I don't know many people who say it the way he says it, but I understand the worldview

I think you have something. I suspected Marty might be it at the end of last episode, in the thread. But ultimately I doubt it.

it's not just gall...it's pretty wise not to
i'm pretty much eliminated from public office out here b/c of that kind of stuff from 15 years ago

but the character they've created is so far from being realistic and it's basically just a vessel to allow MM to chew scenes spouting rants that don't even always come together or make real sense. i know i've been in this corner since ep 1, but they've created a static character to chew scenes, instead of a dynamic character that is realistic but has profound thoughts
I think the Rust revealed to us thus far in 1995 and in the interviews has been a troubled man teetering on the edge of control; however, these are two different troubled men. At these points he is even-keeled therefore static, but in between 1995 and present time, changes occur and we will be seeing the impetus for the changes in the episodes to come.

I don't see a problem with it at all. ....and I really don't think it should weigh on Rust's character.
(I'm looking at you SFP)

he may not be realistic...on purpose...as in he may not be a real person. they way he philosphizes constantly comes off as if he is a split off of Woody's personality...his dark conscience or the doubts/cynicism that lie within him...I hope to God that is wrong and they don't go that way with the story, but I fear that is where this is headed
So his wife invited a friend onto a double-date with her husband and his alternative, dark personality? Too many scenes show people interacting with both of them.

So we're introduced in Ep. 3 to a "tall man." That's been seen with Dory before. I, for one, took him as being the man they were looking for and was seen by the retard and the two kids.
If they saw the tall man.....then it's not Marty or Rust. They obviously would have recognized them.

5. What is the tattoo on Rust's arm? That's a new addition since 1995, right?
No he has this when he smells pussy on Marty in the locker room. I'd assume it was something he got done while undercover prior to 1995.

Just watched the trailer for E4. I think we're about to see what Rust was like during his undercover days.
Also, Marty has a run in with titty monster.

Yea this plus the scenes with their Major debunk this theory IMO

Yeah that's right. I'm talking about the 2012 "copycat" (if that's what it is).

i really hope he doesn't play "God" the entire series. that was my fear after ep 1 and i was hoping it ended there. that's why i got into all those arguments after ep1
This guy. I feel bad for you.
