To be clear, I wasn't calling you out. I watched all 3 episodes in the past 24 hours so I have no clue what you wrote in the threads from the first 2 episodes.

I'll readily admit most atheists wouldn't rant like that, but I think MM's character is far from typical. I also think he does some of it just to piss off Marty.

Are you talking about at the tent? It was my understanding that it was a conversation between Marty and Rust. No one else was listening. They were too wrapped up in whatever the hell Eli was doing.

Agreed on both points there.

As far as Rust, I think that he's so thrown off and fricked up, he's obsessed with his work/case to keep his mind off his kid.

People may not do it in a public setting or at dinner. But, Rust & Marty ride a different line in understanding imo. Partners are a crime like this may talk about any number of things. [Ex. Marty asking Rust if a man can love two people at the same time"]

Also, it's not like Rust goes off on rants all the time. [The bar scene in E3 comes to mind]

Yeah, in Louisiana, sure. But it was just a conversation between two people.

I've had the same conversation with others. Not as deep and to the point, but the conversations happened. You guys act like people don't talk about god not existing. Give me a break.

I don't know many insomniacs with a quaalude habit and a history of psychiatric issues. The character is no more unrealistic that any other super cop character in other great crime dramas.

Exactly. It's a damn TV show. It's entertaining. Not everything needs to be dissected.

i meant to make this point last night before bed, but i think it's clear he's not taking any drugs at this point in the "flashback"

he's not sleeping (no barbituates) and he refused the beer. he's back on the wagon

i just wanted to make this point b/c i don't think anybody had yet

something may be happening with the older daughter of Marty that really causes permanent trauma to him. I'm just spitballing here...but I agree with slopes that Rust's character talks way too stilted most of the time...leads me to believe it may be intentional

we are talking about a layered suspense/mystery serial with two different timelines converging into one with possibly unreliable narrators and a new layer of mystery/suspense...along with tons of symbolism, hidden meanings, and overarching themes

this isn't law & order

Marty "today" doesn't seem traumatized at all regarding the case.

If that were the case, I think we'd be looking at a completely different character.

of course it does...that is how the show is designed. they want you to dig into every detail, knowing some of it leads to nowhere, some leads to somewhere...Pizzalato has said in interviews that everything you see on the screen continues to point to the person responsible --if you are paying attention. lulz

if he is doing one interview as Marty and one interview as "Rust" on his "off days" I would say that is trauma

You can continue to criticize and use $10 words all you want. I'll continue to enjoy the show.

"he knew you thought you didn't know yourself"

"that face you see isn't your own"

"this world is a vail"
