Anyone feel like Mike was the one who helped Julie escape or at least helped her at some point later in after she got free?

There are some fun linguistic clues to back this up. As some fans have pointed out, True Detective Season 3 has had a lot of fun with Latin/Germanic last names that give little hints about the character. For example, Amelia’s maiden name, Reardon, means “royal bard” or “storyteller.” Tom and Lucy’s last name, Purcell, means “swineherd” which pairs with their lowly and debased stature. Hoyt means someone who lives high or on a hill—very appropriate for the shadowy billionaire who runs Arkansas. Ardoin? Well, that means “dwelling-house” or home. Perhaps we’ve found Julie after all.

However, the scene where Tom was able to listen in to the officers talking about the cousin was really dumb. That part bothered me this time.
Really bad scene in an excellent series.

Watching again with CC on this time and caught the Harris James widow was a former domestic at the Hoyts house.
So, I take that as to mean she was killed later by the Hoyts because she was there (working at Hoyts house) at the time when they had Julie and knew about Julie's abduction and etc. Her and Harris both helped in some way and when Harris went missing I bet she said she was going to expose them and got arkancided.

Under the closing credits there is nothing but black, but then you hear what sounds like electricity crackling. What does THAT mean?

Has it been pointed out yet that the black guy with one eye screwed up had the opposite eye all milky and screwed up in the 1990 scene with Amelia this past episode compared to episode 2 when Wayne and Roland went to go visit him?

Yes. They are not the same person.

I could've sworn it was the wrong eye but forgot to go back and look. So yeah it's a different guy. I would assume the one we saw at the book signing is the one involved, not the one at the trailer park.

I wondered the same thing. They had chosen the girl. It was always about Julie. On the phone call Julie doesn’t know Wills dead either. The Hoyt’s have brainwashed her into believing that wasn’t her real dad and it may not be. Julie may in fact been living with her real dad “Hoyt” all these years since she went missing. Need to remember that Lucy worked at Hoyt Foods so an affair could of happened then. Also, we know Tom was gay and more than likely Julie was never his child.
Lucy was in on the kidnapping or at least knew where Julie was going all alone. The Hoyt’s has been paying her all these years. I wonder who went to who first Lucy or Hoyt in kidnapping Julie. The question most bothering me is did Lucy know they would kill Will?
I don't think that was really Julie on the phone. I think the Hoyt guy and/or the prosecutor guy had somehow fabricated that phone call in order throw the detectives off their path and instead have everyone focus on the Dad. They probably planned the dad lashing out in some type of way looking to capitalize on his rash behavior.

Was hoyt at the press conference? Bc julie could be referencing him but everyone just assumes its Tom.

Yea Im not sure about that. In my mind that call could have referred to one of the 3 men who we saw get in front of the camera being Tom, the now AG (former da/prosecutor guy), or the lawyer who was with the woodard kids.
AG may be more likely because it seemed like he tried to pin everything on the dad. Like the whole posthumous conviction of Woodard is fishy esp when you remember the planted evidence.
It seemed like a creative way to bring the crime out to the public forefront again, win brownie points in the community for taking action, and try to prevent further investigation. It seems to fit (esp if the phone call is fabricated) and its all to provoke Tom Purcell into some type of rash action.

Insert obligatory "all blacks look alike" joke

Agree it is the AG. And agree on reasoning for the press conference. Hayes was against it.

Obviously a different guy. Besides, when they got the description of the black guy with a dead eye, it was also said the man had a scar. The 1980 trailer park guy only had the dead eye, 1990 bookstore guy has eye and scar.

right
well dressed black man, dead eye, scar, drove a nice and brand new sedan. no doubt he was the person the kids were meeting in the park and he gave them the toys the detectives found in the woods.

Pizzo confirmed on Instagram that she was talking about Tom. I think some of you guys are overthinking it

Pretty cool how he interacts with the fans on Instagram and answers questions about the episode/season.
I also didn’t realize he graduated from LSU.

Thats very possible its been overthought. I think i may have meant that of the 3 possibilities, if it were not reffering to tom it would be the AG. I was not clear on that before.
My main overthought is that the call itself is fabricated on behalf of the AG/hoyts to redirect a shitstorm to Tom and bury the case at the same time. I suppose this would imply that the call was referencing Tom.
