I’m on board with the surrogate child theory EXCEPT why a pink room in a basement kept behind a large vault door that says “do not disturb” above it? Who are they trying to keep out or keep in?

in: the girl (and she's obviously ignorant to the outside world during the 80 timespan b/c she doesn't know her brother died)

out: everyone (they kidnapped the girl, bruv)

Stupid question, but the house at the end that he finds the pink room in. Who’s house is that again?

Why did he go there?

Also I must have missed it but why did the cops all of sudden think Tom did it and do a 180 on him?

the ranking guys did. Hays wasn't sure. Dorff did not (and wanted to clear him)

The end of that episode got me in the pit of my stomach. I’m so glad True Detective is back!

That final scene was straight out of the David lych playbook. And I love it.

My wife told me she's enjoying season 3 more than season 1. I can see it.. I was more invested in Marty and Rust, though. THat's why I like season 1 more

season 3 is effectively a reboot of season 1

2 detectives
rural location
rich/powerful people and kids
one detective with a moral code
one detective who plays the straight/every man
multiple timelines

it just promised a lot less from the get go and seems very likely to pay off on the lowered expectations, which means it likely will be superior as an overall piece of work. it won't ever hit the highs but it will almost assuredly not disappoint like season 1 did

I've enjoyed season 3 so far as much as any show I've watched but nothing can replicate the first half of season 1. The feel of that season along with being set in Louisiana was just unreal.

Holy shite... I didn't catch this during the episode but when they are in Harris James office at the hoyt facility and they are interviewing him the Camera pans to a picture of him and another man posing with a deer they have just killed. That other man is actor Michael Rooker. No doubt in my mind he is Hoyt and he will no doubt make an appearance at some point. Maybe they show the scene Wayne referred to last episode when he tells Roland that hoyt visited him back in 90 and "knew what they did but was in the dark about some things"

I'm wondering if Roland is gay too, there seems to be some underlying issue between Tom and he, and his earlier relationship from 1980 disintegrated.

It seems Harris was gay too, judging by his comment to Hayes about having a good body. Strange comment.

i think Roland just over sympathizes with Tom b/c Tom's life was terrible and he was a super drunk and now is sober and doing better

i think the part where Roland finds the "you can cure homosexuality" card shows that the homosexuality is revelaed to him there

i could be wrong

I kind of question if Roland was gay too but after a re watch he seemed more shocked about Tom than anything. Could be wrong.

Could it be possible that one-eyed Jack and the woman were actually trying to prevent Julie from being kidnapped. The "ghosts" were trying to interfere in the kidnapping.

They find Will after he hits his head and they realize they are too late. The woman was a member of the church (Roland's GF??) and the man had the dolls and left them so they could find the boy.

That would explain why he was so angry at the book signing.

Also, the landscaper at the halfway house was Ardoin landscaping. That's the name of the boy that was trick-or-treating with the kids. I think they were showing us that for a reason.

Yes. The one eyed man seems more concerned about Juile's well being as opposed to finding her and shutting her up.

That's how I took it as well.

I wonder if we'll find out exactly who was interviewed neighbors in 80. We've seen several references to plain clothes asking questions, and there was the issue of the brown sedan. Like was mentioned earlier I assume the one eyed black guy worked for Hoyt and the lady he was with was the daughter that lost a child. But who else was in on it? Or does it just not matter at this point?

I agree I think Hays daughter died young. It fits the theme. There have been references throughout, perhaps mostly in the lines that are read from Amelia's book. And we see her get sick in this episode.

Also, who was the landscaper outside the window when Amelia was interviewing the girl? I have the think of they made it a point to show him, he fits into this somehow.

Great episode.

Whenever Hayes figures out the kids were passing each other notes, they showed some of the notes. I need to go back and see what the notes say, maybe there are clues there.

I had the same thought, but they're just encouragement type stuff. "It's ok." "I'll always be here."

It would appear that Hoyt or someone else of means is hiring people to monitor and in some cases impede the investigation, by both the partners and perhaps Amelia.

The one eyed guy is a plant I think to damage her credibility.

The carpenter at the girls home is going to be "somebody", probably a hit man. Probably the same guy that offs Dan.

And what is the specific cause of Amelia's death? We don't know yet.

Dots should connect quickly with only two episodes remaining.
