I went back and watched the preview for Ep 6 (some parts frame by frame) and there are several things in it that make me go hmmmm.

When the cops are interviewing Maggie, she says "I knew Rust to be a good man." She uses the past tense, but this could just be that she hasn't seen him in 10 years.

Also, Marty tells Rust "I am the only one who ever took up for you." Rust replies "Without me there is no you." Is Rust implying that without the case, and his work on it, Marty would just be another no name cop, but because of the case and Rust's dogged pursuit of it, Marty got his name in the paper and got a promotion?

There is a quick shot of Marty with blood on his face. He is being grabbed/restrained by four guys (none of whom I recognize) and it appears that they are at the back of a red pickup truck. Doesn't Rust drive a red truck?

Finally, there is a quick (a second or less) shot of a female in bra and panties checking herself in a mirror. When watching the preview last night I thought it was Maggie, but it isn't. Doing a freeze frame and then looking at the cast list on IMDB, I can't tell if it is either Audrey or Maisie or if it is someone else.

Finally, and this doesn't come from the preview, thinking back to what was said about the beer in the interrogation room. We see Rust sniff the coke in the evidence room, does a few lines with Ginger, etc. and still seems to keep calm and keep his wits about him - makes me think he has a high tolerance level for things like that. I wonder then if the whole alcoholic thing is an act.

Rust seemed amused when they accused him. Then he asked them if they had friends in high places.

Probably. However, it could also mean that Mary was toast after whacking Ledoux until Rust bailed his arse the frick out.

I really hope your trolling. Otherwise I don't see how you could enjoy this show while coming up with the most idiotic speculation since Ryno's Marty/Rust are the same person idea.

You can start by watching E1. Pay attention to Marty's shirt and tie and you'll notice the continuity issues.

Guys holding Marty back are the (tasks force) investigators that were gonna take the case over from he and Rust. I think the girl at the end is Marty's youngest daughter.

Serial killers have dark sides by definition? Have you been watching this show? EVERYONE has a dark side--it's the whole point of the Rust philosophy.

I don't think we've met the king in yellow, if he even exists.

am i the only one that doesn't want the killings to be part of this massive cult involving people high up in government and law enforcement?

no sir. it's been one of my worries since ep 1

but for it to involve the governors cousin and multiple members of the state police feels likes its been done before and kind of cheesy.

i agree

be careful though, or you'll be told you hate this show

Exactly. Darkness is the predominate theme of Pizzolatto's works up to this point.

If Marty was the killer, why would he be protecting Rust during the interrogation? Why wouldn't he just throw him under the bus?

Unless you believe that Rust is complicit also...

No way Marty is the killer. Totally out of character for him to be sacrificing women and children when he has been shown multiple times having a soft spot for abused/used children and girls. This theory is as dumb as the multiple shirt dinner.

This is exactly what I was alluding to earlier when I said I don't think we have the full story on that incident. Her death is definitely linked IMO.

I get the feeling that Rust began tracing this case as a way to avenge his daughter's death and the deeper he got, he grew to realize the magnitude of its scale. His daughter's death would also explain why he has such an emotional attachment to the case after all of these years.

I'm sorry, haven't we already learned that she was hit by a car while riding her bike? In what way would that have a connection to some cult type serial crime?
I think it's possible that Rust is the one that hit her, but I don't think it goes any further than that.

So I guess Charlie Lange may have lied because Reggie didn't have a spiral tattoo on his back. He does have a sweet tat of Ms. Dupre (?) on his shoulder though.

It was a brand, and he did have one.

On the surface I agree with this but I Rust could be holding back the whole story. I could see Rust working this case from multiple angles one of them being personal.
