outside of the character of rust, when did it ever leave the world of rational explanations?

Rust was having visions at the start of the show. He went all metaphysical toward the middle of the show. Now he is not tasting colors and shite. He is putting together a case he should have 17 years prior.

Where are yall getting this from, i understand yall said the paintings match, but Marty never mentions anything about his daughter being in that Ward at all. I think that would be cheap of the writers to intentionally hide that from us

I have no proof of this but put it together from the fact that Audrey is clearly screwed up on a major level based on previous episodes. The picture on Maggie's wall matches the psych ward mural. Since the girl that was rescued by Rust had been an obvious victim to the cult ritual, she could have exposed Audrey to that knowledge without Audrey having been abused by the said cult.

When Marty gets them for dinner (ep. 2 doll scene). Audrey is telling her sister that "she doesn't have a mommy or daddy. They were in an accident. A car accident."

Dora Lange's father was killed in a trucking accident. Not saying it's necessarily related but that's the only other car accident I remember referenced other than Rust's daughter getting hit.

They are ear marking this character to be the bad guy IMO.

The synopsis for the season finale of “True Detective,” “Form and Void,” hints that an “overlooked detail will provide Hart and Cohle with an important new lead in their 17-year-old case.” What detail could that be?

Rust taps into the 4th dimension, watches HBO on demand, does a bit of frame by frame analysis of the 1st seven episodes and realizes he should have originally investigated the lawnmower man.

Interestingly MM did an interview with Rolling Stone and said he has been watching True Detective with his family each Sunday night like the rest of us. He goes back and watches each Ep. two or three times during the week. Sure he knows the ending, but think of all the details he gets to see as a viewer. Pretty cool he is obsessed with TD as we all are.
