a recent movie that portrays the afgan war pretty damn accurate is the outpost, really enjoyed that show, even if it did remind me why i hate the higher ups in the army and the DOD.
accurate and based off true story about combat outpost keating in Northern Afgan and the Battle of Kamdesh in 2009.
episode 2 & 8 of medal of honor on netflix is about that battle too.

Bridge on River Kwai was awesome

No list of great war movies would be complete without "All Quiet on the Western Front" (the 1930 version with Lew Ayres, not the remake with Richard Thomas) .
From the IMBD description...
It is a great movie about the horrors of war.
From the IMBD description...
quote:
This is an English language film (made in America) adapted from a novel by German author Erich Maria Remarque. The film follows a group of German schoolboys, talked into enlisting at the beginning of World War 1 by their jingoistic teacher. The story is told entirely through the experiences of the young German recruits and highlights the tragedy of war through the eyes of individuals. As the boys witness death and mutilation all around them, any preconceptions about "the enemy" and the "rights and wrongs" of the conflict disappear, leaving them angry and bewildered.
It is a great movie about the horrors of war.

What's the war movie that they used real ammo and actually shot a cow with tracer rounds in one scene? I think it's about Belarus or the Eastern front in WW2.

I'll add one that's just an incredible film in every way.
Panfilov's 28 Men (Russian)
A 2016 war film based on a legend about a group of soldiers – Panfilov's Twenty-Eight Guardsmen – heroically halting and destroying German tanks headed for Moscow. It is set in the Eastern Front of World War II and covers the 8th Guards Rifle Division operations during the 1941 Battle of Moscow.

Haven’t seen Das Boot actually. I’ll watch it soon.

I've seen most every movie the posters have already listed and love almost all of them.
Here's one that seems lesser known, from the true perspective of a little boy in London during the Blitz.
Hope and Glory
