Yeah that was discussed in the original discussion thread. No chance they wouldn’t have not only heard about him, but knew who he was and likely by appearance too. For someone who pulled off something that got him “on the front page of every newspaper in the English speaking world,” he’d certainly have been a legend around there. Even moreso with his “don’t give a frick” attitude.

…fricking good this movie is.

I agree...I've watched it several times and if it's on one of the premiums I'll watch it again...

Just watched it (TGM). I’ll say it’s on par with the original TG. Good movie.

There were parts in TGM that played more of a “shout out” the original , such as the opening credits, football scene, Hangman = Iceman , Maverick / Charlie mirror type bar scene then class scene the next day.

Things I wasn’t a fan of. Should have used the same red star + yellow circle enemy livery. Make up a fake country name, IDK “Lomear”? “South Pacifica”? Come up with something. Clearly call out that the country bought the F-14’s from Iran. The generic “5th gen fighter” got old. Call it a MiG 50EX or something like that.

Again. I liked the movie.

I think Hangman = Young Maverick and we’re just watching it from a different lens.

Hangman is a hell of an instinctive pilot who leaves his wingman (earning the nickname “bagman”), appears to be the only one other than Maverick with a kill going into this movie. There even was a “this kid’s good” line from Maverick in the dogfighting scene’s which is spot on what Jester said about Maverick in the original.

Hangman also does the fastest 180 from the bar scene to idolizing Maverick after the dogfight scenes.

I didn't care for Iceman's demise

Also, who else has 5th Gen fighters besides the US, Russia and China?

The problem is some of you guys judge all movies with the same lens. TG original and sequel were never meant to push the boundaries of film, they were meant to be exciting blockbuster movies that were fun and entertaining to the masses.

do you have this same energy for the dude that thought Cruise should get an emmy?

Honestly, It imo is overrated. I have zero desire to rewatch the sequel. ill watch the original again, but the sequel is just okay
