Definitely. Was trying to sneak into R movies around that time. Amazing how incredible it still looks and really holds up 25 years later.

De Niro from 1973-1985 is in a league of his own.

Mean Streets
The Godfather Part II
Taxi Driver
1900
The Deer Hunter
Raging Bull
The King of Comedy
Once Upon a Time in America
Brazil

Such a great movie and cast

A pretty ridiculous cast.
Tom Hanks
Geena Davis (at top of her game)
Lori Petty
Madonna
Rosie O'Donnell (both of them at the top of their acting game, and made for a believable pair of friends)
Garry Marshall
Jon Lovitz
David Strathairn

Only 78% on Rotten Tomatoes. I guess critics were harsher back then. Yeesh.

Easy to believe he's in his 60s if you remember him in Bosom Buddies.

He should have won for this. One of the biggest snubs in Oscars history imo. He carried the movie on an island by himself and makes you cry about a volleyball. Not to mention Russell Crowe in Gladiator was pretty meh

Laugh all you want but Bachelor Party(1984) is his most underrated performance.

Worth noting that he produced two of the best mini series From the Earth to the Moon and Band of Brothers during this time.

He is extremely talented
Plus, he has such a neutral presence to begin with, that he’s very malleable and can adapt to
so many varied roles.
Gangster inRoad to Perdition; charming rogue politician inCharlie Wilson’s War;
A stoic astronaut in a crisis.
A young enthusiastic guy in a pop band in tThat Thing You DotHeroic airline pilot who saves the day. Heroic soldier.

Nd, of course, an Alabama scholar-athlete.

I thought Hanks was great in it, and I thought it was a pretty good movie too.

Paul Newman is good in it as well

I remember thinking he would never make it when I first saw him on TV. Thought he was trying to hard to be like Chevy Chase:

Love that movie but can y’all imagine how over-the-top it would be if it were made today?

Most overrated actor of all time.

He is the master of playing Tom Hanks in every role.

You're getting shite on, but you're also correct. He reminds me of Tom Cruise and Harrison Ford, fantastic movie stars, but good not great actors. Hanks is also considered one of, if not the most, likeable guy in Hollywood, plus he does an insane amount of work with the WW2 Museum.

Agree about Russell Crowe winning. Gladiator is one my favorite movies but he basically just plays a hard arse with a bunch of fight scenes
