Love the scene where Livia gets shot in her big hair. Janice mentions that in the third season I think. Glad they incorporated that.

Yeah, I thought that was a good touch of nostalgia. It was in season 6B in the episode when Tony and Carmela go to the lake with Bobby and Janice. It's why Bobby and Tony got into the fight where Bobby whips his arse.

What a piece of shite

Incredibly disappointed. So glad Chase decided to write a movie because of BLM guilt.

Finally got around to watching this. I can't properly express my disappointment in text form. It's just bad. None of the nostalgia landed for me. It feels like 2 hours just to payoff a bunch of lines that didn't need to be paid off from the series. The story seemed disjointed and entirely without purpose. I'm not sure why they made this movie. It does nothing to further the series and isn't on par with the previous work.

The ONLY thing I can think of (based on my opinion of the show and what it was/did) is that they are playing a long game and setting up for more installments about Tony...

Meh. It wasn’t that bad. But wasn’t great either. The race riots didn’t bother me as it’d be appropriate for the time frame (and with Frank Lucas’ involvement pushing drugs out past NY) but Chase missed an opportunity to tie it to Reverend James and his family from Season 2.

I enjoyed the nostalgia moments with Liv and I enjoyed the younger portrayals, particularly Liv.

It was just really disjointed with the time jump and would’ve been better served as a miniseries instead of a one-shot, less than 2 hour movie.

That said, people have mentioned inconsistencies between the show and the movie. Chase apparently rolled with that because he doesn’t believe Chris is a reliable narrator (or any of them really, just look how much Tony lied even on little shite throughout the show).

There are a ton of mafia story lines they could’ve used and they went with “Harold”

Just awful.

Reports out today that Chase is in talks with HBO to do a full prequel series

Despite this movies flaws, I am still very much in on that idea, and it would be really nice if they can keep most of the cast from the movie outside of Sil

I hope so, because, I'm not ashamed to say that today my estimation of David Chase as a filmmaker just frickin plummeted.

Im sure viewers can't wait to see the backstory of Harold and Newark AA community in the 1960's

I mean with more time to breathe and an actual conclusion, that could be an interesting plot for part of a prequel series. Somewhat ties into the Massive Genius plot line from season 1 and Tony mentions a few times having to squash out guys like this on the way out

Absolutely agree. I'd always had my suspicions because everything else he's done outside of the Sopranos has apparently been shite, and now with this unless he has an all time cast and every single writer from the Sopranos I don't expect any of his projects to be worth a damn.

After this showing I'm not really interested in one. James Gandolfini's performance is what made The Sopranos. Not Chase.

I think the movie would have been fine as a series. My main gripe is that as a movie it couldn't capture any of what made the Sopranos the Sopranos. The dark humor, the treachery, the nuance, the characters arc, etc. I think a series has promise. But its gonna be weird going from that movie to a series, but I really hope he doesn't make a few more movies and take that route.
