It’ll all depend upon the competition, I guess.
I’d expect the Oscar competition to be crazy high this year with all the big time directors who have movies coming out in the next few months

Idk what are the "Hollywood" reviews like? I know I haven't heard anyone in person on or here or youtube that really like it, but I know the "official reviews" don't always reflect that.
An interesting side note, on that same podcast episode, they asked David Chase if he thought Sopranos could be made today and he responded with no, and that amazon had told him that they would not authorize any script that had a woman using sex to get something she wanted. Who knows what kind of creative constraints HBO and Warner Brothers had. But I mean, HBO puts out gnarly stuff so I can't imagine that studio constraint would be responsible for the terrible plot and end result in this case.

Originally a movie about race riots that no one cares about.
Doesn't greenlit without the Soprano's angle.
I think this is why it failed. Chases ego to do something about the race riots ruined it. Tried to tie 2 different stories together that weren’t really connected to each other in one movie. You could do it in a tv series because you have time for nuanced detail but not a movie. Had he focused solely on a sopranos story it would have been better

This is why Hollywood sucks today.
But yea I don’t see HBO restraining content much. I mean Dickie dropped the N word in the movie so it wasn’t politically correct. Just not a well made movie

No true, I was leaning more towards Warner Bros. But I thought that was interesting about Amazon. While not surprising, Imperioli laughed and said "that was the point of the Sopranos, everyone used anything they could to get what they wanted." Which was extremely accurate.

That's preposterous if true

I didn’t think it was that bad. Sure, it didn’t have much impact on The Sopranos, but I didn’t have much reason to hate it other than Sil’s god awful character impression.
Nothing special, but not terrible IMO.

FINALLY got the time to watch it last night. I honestly don't know what to make of it.
Had some good things: was well shot, some of the characters like Dickie, Livia, Junior were well acted, and thought the twist at the end where Junior called the hit on Dickie was actually pretty surprising.
But I am with you guys, I found more bad than good. I agree with no point in Harold's story line. Outside of Dickie he was by far the main part of the movie which fricking aggravated me. Was pretty woke with the riot crap but I expected it. Didn't develop any of the characters that were worth a shite like Tony. I knew Dickie was a major player, but was disappointed with the lack of Tony appearances. The plot was pretty dumb as well. It was like they tried to sprinkle a bunch of shite in 2 hours which didn't work out at all. I'm with yall should have been a mini series, not a movie.
While I am glad to see Sopranos material and in a way I enjoyed it for that, but the movie was extremely flawed and wasn't very good at all. I don't remember who said it, but was very well said when he said all Chase wanted to do was make a movie about the riots with Sopranos material sprinkled in there a little.

It's been a week since I've seen it and I'm still mad how shitty this movie is.

Says a lot about Chase that he thought he needed the Sopranos angle to get it greenlighted.

Saying this movie was about the riots is like saying the Sopranos series was about the waste removal industry.

Well it was. Jason Barone selling his dad's business to Ginelli Sanitation (or whatever) ignited the war basically. But I see what you mean, but DC himself has said he wanted to make a movie about the riots and it could never get off the ground with any studios.

Just watched it all the way through.
I liked it, except for Silvio.

Finally got to see it. Not that good. The Dickie story was just ok and the riots and other stuff just wasn't interesting. The Sopranos stuff and characters really seemed like side characters in this story. I wanted the movie to be all about them. This was a miss.

I liked it but my expectations were low going in.

In the 90's, Sopranos was completely irreverent to PC culture but yet in the 70's they were leftists? Fughettabout it!

No. Why would you want to watch something that has zero bearing on the series if you were to watch it one day? Also, if you are into wokeism have at it, but they fricked that up too apparently. Their was ZERO wokeness of italians or mafia in the 60's, 70's, and 80's.

Will there be a great or even really good movie released this year? There certainly hasn't been one released so far. This year's Oscars will be really bad.
