fricking Ishtar was better than this movie.

Watched it twice, thinking maybe I would find it better the 2nd time by picking up on small things I may have missed on the first viewing.
I liked it even less the second time. It was straight crap. Very disappointing

That better not be the last we see of Corey Stoll as young Junior.

Terrible. Zero point to that pile of shite.

*****SPOILERS*****
Terrible so far. So much of it doesn't make sense. Dickie fricking his dad's widow? That would be frowned on in the mob especially back then. They don't even address it. SJW moment of cops gunning down kid in the street. Dickie's gumar being a women's libber as a poor Italian immigrant? Where is the historical accuracy in that? Tony stealing the ice cream truck. What was the point? This movie had no idea what it wanted to be. That is what happens when you force a prequel.

Cast was great. Story was lame. Pretty obviously setting up some future projects with the cast.

Pretty sure Chris found out his dad was a serious drug user like him during the series as well but in the movie there’s not even a hint of anything like that. Total mess
I assume them finding the pills for Livia is the hint that you are looking for. Would make sense that the story gets passed down to Chris to tell him his father is a junkie because they found pills on him

It definitely left a lot of the table and is a bit disappointing but I don’t think it’s quite as bad as people are saying.
There were some really good performances mixed with a few bad ones. Problem is they seemed to give the bad ones a little more plot direction than the good ones. Micheal Gandolfini should’ve been the main character, every time he was on screen I was enthralled.
Ending felt like a TV show season ender, not a movie ending. I was like “uhh that’s it?”. Felt like there should’ve been something else there.
Honestly the biggest issue I had with the movie was Silvio, when did Silvio become a Marx brother? Felt like he was doing sight gags and half a carrot top set during this.
All in all It’s entertaining enough for the sopranos Easter eggs to watch atleast. Would still like more with Young Tony. Usually recasting the main role is the hardest part but they’ve got the guy if they want to use him

I thought he was the weakest casting of all of the main characters. The only good thing about him was that we could now see why Junior considered Tony a hothouse flower with no makings of a varsity athlete.

Really? I thought he nailed Tony’s mannerisms and cadence, atleast to a muted degree since he was a less confident kid
I think he’s got potential as an actor going forward

It's getting universally roasted, even from die hard Sopranos fans who would eat up anything from Chase.
I haven't seen it yet so I wont comment, but a few people I trust in their taste HATE it

Lame is inappropriate, IMO. It was serious nuance though.
Junior’s inferiority, Chris’ dad being a “drug user” because of the pills found in his jacket, etc.
I loved Paulie painting clear polish on his nails, lol.

As much as you can fill those shoes, that guy did a great job making a younger version of Paulie. Give me his own spin-off
Silvio on the other hand felt like a bad SNL sketch.

It’s okay as a casual watch, just don’t expect too much and of course the 1/3 to 1/2 of the movie being completely irrelevant.

In reality it was like a very long sopranos episode in a way,
Best description in the thread. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t really a movie as much as it was a long episode of a prequel series.

To those that streamed,
Did you catch yourself pausing at anytime to look at how much time was left and say to yourself:
“We better getting moving on the Sopranos storyline/plot here…”

It seems that David Chase gets a lot of praise and credit for the Sopranos which is understandable since it was his creation and he obviously had a major hand in the execution of the series. But could it be that what so many people really love about the TV show was actually the collaboration/input from a lot of creative people (T Winter, M Wiener, T Van Patten etc) that just wasn’t in the mix for the movie? Seems if all of those folks contributed to the movie, which of course isn’t really practical, it would have been a much different product and likely much more satisfying

C+ is pretty bad from what I have seen of other movies. Including those that didn't do well.
I'd give it a D at best.

This whole movie was a steaming pile of Pie-O-My’s horse crap with nice cinematography.
Just leave Sopranos alone. After seeing this I don’t trust Chase with the property anymore. It was a goddamn, idiotic travesty.
Chase has become George Lucas

Absolutely what I thought. Judging from Chase's other credits I've always wondered if he just hit lightning in a bottle with the perfect mix of actors and writers to make that show what it was. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve credit but a lot of "creators" start with a basic premise then the team of writers and team of actors take over and really make the show.
