I agree it is a disaster but it’s not a layup. I’m a huge Tolkien guy and have always said that this age should never be adapted. It’s just not an age of his writings that are very adaptable to television.

You don’t have to do it as bad as these clowns are doing but you have to make up too much material and that doesn’t fly with die hards. The Silmarillion is brilliant but should have been left alone. They are trying to sneak around the appendices to tell The Silmarillion and it just doesn’t work.

The IP should have been left alone after the original trilogy and maybe have done The Hobbit in one movie instead of stretching it to a trilogy. Just let a good thing lie.

Oh, I remember the anticipation... first episode, if I recall, was also at the theaters. I'm a Tolkien fan, and I was so excited to see this.

What I saw was a gut punch. I actually wasn't completely upset about the early treatment of Galadriel, as Tolkien did write that when she was younger she was more fiery and ambitious. I did oppose the way she was treated in Lindon by Gil Galad; she would still have been his elder and a hugely respected individual (last surviving grandchild of Finwe, unless you count Maglor wandering the world somewhere).

But when they started wholesale substitution of Tolkien's canon for made-up shite, the show cratered.

Looks like a ton of fan service cameo type shite. Just taking things we remember from the movies and throwing them at the wall to see what sticks

Very little screen time for Galadriel and I don’t think I saw the Footsies or whatever they call the Hobbits. Maybe Amazon is keying into what the LOTR fans actually want
