A stupid decision. He wasnt cast because of merit. There are probably hundreds of talented British actors that would have fit the age, physical appearance to a T and acted as good or better than this random black dude they hired. If we are DEI hiring for this show, im guessing the rest of the cast is gonna be a clownshow as well.

which is why i'm now calling out the dumbasses saying Snape's skin color is an important part of his character. If JK had described Snape to fit Paapa's physical appearance in the original books it would not have changed the story at all in my head when I read it.
Changing a characters age like they did Snape in the movies is not a huge issue, neither is changing Snapes skin color. the only reason it matters is because of how people obsess over race. Changing a characters age changes their wisdom, life experience, the story's timeline, Harry's parents time since passing, etc.
Changing Snape's skin color just changes the amount of melanin he produces
they shouldn't have changed it because it is a distraction and people do obsess over it.

This exactly. The only reason that could possibly justify remaking the original books is if the series were even more faithful to the books than the films, which already did a decent job for the most part. No one asked for this in the first place

I think Hermoine being black wouldn’t matter. I do think Snape being black would matter because of how he was treated. I feel like the dynamics change if he was the black boy being mistreated at school.
Hermoine’s don’t change at all really.
Just an unnecessary move imo. Hopefully it works out for them.

Yep, which is why the biggest criticism i keep seeing being about James bullying the only black kid doesn't make sense. There are gonna be plenty of black students/teachers at this hogwarts.
They will be picking on one of them, not all of them. So it would be weird to say they picked him to bully out of all the black students because he is black. They will come up wit a scene that shows what happens when the bullying starts, and it won't be anything to do with race.

I was really looking forward to this new upcoming series since I read the books after I had watched the movies (imo the best way to handle major books made into films) and there was quite a bit of content that I thought would be great to see.
