As the father of a young child, I have watched the entire Toy Story franchise in 30 minute Intervals about 10 times over the last month. Just some thoughts.

1. the Original Toy Story movie is fantastic. as many times as i’ve watched it, I am still not entirely sick of it.

2. its hilarious how much detail went into like the texture of Mr Potato head and then the humans are just nightmarish looking. and Scud the dog is hilariously bad animation. it gets better each movie

3. Sid is clearly just super poor.

4. Toy Story 2 is an extremely good sequel. does a great job of telling a new story while capturing some of the fun parts of the first movie.

5. Bonnie is the villain of Toy Story 4. the worst. I think they did a great job setting up the ending with Bo.

Original toy story came out of Pixar labs fooling around and computer animation was still in it's infancy and they didn't have tons of cash.

Still an absolute watermark in film.

Great franchise. All four films are solid.

I rank them 1, 3, 2, 4. But a lot of people around here rank 2 much higher than I do (although "When She Loved Me" is a Pixar highpoint).

TS3 is a legit incredible film, and was an absolutely perfect endpoint for the series.

TS4 was really good in its own right, but it should've been a spinoff of sorts since TS3 was so perfect. It's much better than people give it credit for though.

Also, here are some of my unpopular thoughts of TS3 and why Lotso wasn't completely unreasonable (at least in the beginning).

Random but what was Sid's drunk dad watching late at night that would be airing a Buzz Lightyear commercial?

it was the middle of the day lol.

but also, they made clear
to put soda labels on all the cans. But it is a weird upstairs living room with like a guitar and some records and a million soda cans and 1 recliner. that was like a smoke pad.

I do not think I have actually seen all of 3. My kids probably had it one once and watch the shite out of 1, 2 & 4. May have to convince them to watch 3 one day just to sit there and watch it

How so? She just has absolutely no interest in playing with the "boy toys" and has her own set of toys, and now a spork, that she absolutely adores. We only see the story from Woody's vantage point.

Now her parents were very absent minded and for the most part gave very little care about her toys (just stepping on them, sweeping them into the closet), and didn't really give much of an effort to help her find her "new toy" when she was clearly heartbroken over it.

she plays with Buzz. Andy specifically told her how important Woody was. TS3 she’s all like “my cowboy”

we see the story from everyone’s POV. it’s not a 1st person POV novel. we are 3rd person observers. now is Woody the central character? sure, but it’s not like we have an unreliable narrator situation. She’s doing all the things we see her do.

no

I honestly could see an argument for any of the four movies to be the best.

I'd probably say 1, 3, 4, 2. Two still being an incredible film and one of the better animated movies out there.

The end was perfect, and incredibly touching, and I wanted them to stop there. But I actually think the ending to 4 was incredible too. I think it brought Woody's story arc full circle. The movie wasn't necessary but they definitely pulled it off as being a great movie and a very fitting end in it's own right. It was a better end for Woody in particular imo, not as much for the rest of the characters like TS3 was.

4 was crap. They should have stopped at 3. It will keep going until the legacy is destroyed.

I can see your point, maybe I'll have a better understanding of your position if my kids every want to watch TS3 But I still don't see how she could simply be considered "the worst" just because an adult told her how important Woody was to him and she doesn't view him as important. And regarding the "my cowboy" part, again without really seeing TS3, she does make Jessie the Sheriff and seems to have a really fond connection with her, until the spork.

Was watching TS2 Sunday and was remember thinking how cool it would be if Disney put out a season of Woody's Roundup, without Disneying it up too much.

Regardless of how you may feel about the story in Toy Story 4, it features by far the best animation Pixar has put out.

i’ll be honest, 1 and 2 are my clear 1-2.

TS3 is a little intense. The toys holding. hands as they are almost melted down and then the happy ending is getting given to a new kid, idk. it’s a significantly less happy ending with TS4

but that being said the story like in TS4 is good. and they do a good job setting up the Woody Bo Reunion Ending.

thought on TS5: lost toy woody absolutely has to show up in like a makeshift poncho looking like Clint Eastwood.

3 is by far the best one.

Its in a different tier than the rest.

Great prison escape film with a really good villain.

The rest are good but 3 is a masterpiece of a movie, animated or not.

idk the toys holding hands in resignation and the slide toward their death is a bit much for a kids movie.

1 is perfect.

There is no animated movie that is in a different tier than the first Toy Story. It's not possible to be that good.

3 seemed to be made for adults who grew up with TS 1 and 2. 1 is a near perfect kids movie.
