It was one of the very first R-rated movies I saw in theaters and I enjoyed it. Of course I was 17 at the time. I rewatched it this weekend for the first time with some friends who had never seen it.
Semi-Spoiler :
The first time I saw it I wasn't fully convinced of what was actually happening until Leo's final quote before he walks off.

Not a fan. I feel asleep within 30 minutes of the movie. I woke up about 40 minutes later and watched the next 5 minutes. I turned to my gf and gave away the twist and went back to sleep. People in the movie were pissed. Not my fault its a predictable movie.

Not Scorsese's best, but it's still Scorsese and Leo. I did like the movie...Michelle Williams' character was pretty amazeballs.

I'm surprised so many of you say the ending was predictable. It caught me completely off guard - I had no clue that DiCaprio had been a patient all along. I thought it was a good movie.

Agreed. But we should be careful admitting that here because the elite film minds that post here will ostracize us.

Call me crazy, or maybe I've just seen too many movies or read too many stories like this, but from the previews and reading up on the story line, I was able to deduce fairly easily that Leo was actually a patient. Given his hallucinations and paranoia throughout the film, it was pretty easy to jump to that conclusion. Not trying to put anyone down who didn't see the ending coming. You probably enjoyed the film a whole lot more than I did. It was just one of those movies that I saw through.
Granted, the only 2 movies that have ever caught me off guard by their twists were The Usual Suspects and the Sting.

...i didn't see it coming. loved the movie. I actively try not to see the twist coming, because the movie is less fun if you do that.

Well that makes me feel better then.
While I wasn't sure of the twist in Shutter Island throughout the movie, I predicted the plot twist in The Usual Suspects somewhat early in the movie.

There are some very good performances in this movie, though. Michelle Williams and Ben Kingsley come to mind.

I loved Shutter Island.

I did no research, and had no idea in general what it was about. That's probably why I liked it so much.

Simply amazing how many Mensa members are on this site figuring out every movie within 5 minutes before walking out on it. Never fails.

I really like it.
Not Marty's best by any means but it was a very entertaining, creepy thriller.

Do I need to get my MENSA card out? If you pay attention to film pacing and cinematography, there are patterns that evolve. The same is true with plotlines in novels. For instance:
SPOILER FOR LOOPER BELOW
In Looper, when they don't show the boy's face, only his feet, that indicated he was important. Given the movie plot revolved around finding a boy of 10 who was the Rainmaker, I deduced that boy was the rainmaker. Given that the Rainmaker took down the mob by himself, and that TK had been discussed early on in the film but to no end, I deduced the Rainmaker was highly TK. Then it was finally "revealed" that the boy was the Rainmaker when he utilized extreme TK abilities. Shocker. If you don't pay attention enough to catch it, that's cool. Enjoy the movie. But don't think people are lying because you didn't see it coming.
SPOILER FOR LOOPER ABOVE.
ETA: yes, I realize these are easy deductions in Looper.

No Sixth Sense? That's one I feel like got almost everybody. Which is why it was so good.
I usually scoff at the "I figured it out early" people, because they normally sound like douches...but I realize that it happens and sometimes people can figure shite out. I figure out some movies, but for the most part, I prefer to not try to figure it out and just watch it for entertainment. Like you said, it makes it more enjoyable that way.

I kept saying, "This motherfricker is a Doc and he has 3 different outfits?".
Never saw Shutter Island because some douche on here revealed the ending the day it came out. Is it worth the watch knowing how it ends?
