Finally watched this tonight. I really enjoyed it. Don’t understand some of the hate it’s getting. Maybe because I don’t read the comics so I don’t know how it’s suppose to go but it was a fun movie.

I think they are immortal.
Thor was born way after Hela was banished.
Yet Valkyrie fought Hela and isn't a God.

I liked it. It was okay.

Just saw it tonight, thought it good, but there were just so many plot holes for me. Why was Hella getting stronger, why was the fire demon defeated so easily by Thor, yet Blanchette couldn't do anything.
I also felt the film really tried to sway the audience much more with comedy than outline a solid story. Kind of paint by numbers plot... point A, this happens to get to Point B where this happens to get to Point c where this happens
Guardians of the galaxy has really really shown its immense influence in the Marvel movies, now they seem like $200 million space comedies with a comic book cast... Don't know if that's good or bad in the long run.
Also, I don't care for the actress in most anything else, but the chick playing The Valkyrie was really intriguingly hot to me in this. Don't know what it was, but I would make 3/4 caucasian babies with her all the time if she went around in those outfits all the time.

I loved it. Was a blast.

Seems like Thor was blaming Loki for manipulating him and contributing to his death but Odin really was dying and went to Earth of his own accord so that Hela would pop up on Midgard when he died and not Asgard.
I think the reason Odin was dying was because he wasn't allowed to complete the Odinsleep, which is what I think Thor was blaming Loki for. Also, Odin said it took him some time to see past Loki's spell, but decided to stay on Earth anyways (I believe because he knew the Ragnarok was going to be needed, and he thought Earth would be the new Asgard home).

The demon wasn't at full strength. It seemed to me that was the point and send to fulfill a prophecy. If Thor wasn't able to defeat him, the skull wouldn't get to Asgard. Once the skull was reborn in the fire, the prophecy was finished and nothing could stop the Ragnarok.

I interpreted it that way, as well. Once both got to Asgard, at least in the Marvel Universe, it was a battle Hela couldn't win.

So if Tony or cap die in avengers 3 does someone else take up the shield or wear the suit? I can't see them letting those characters just die off like that. I feel like witch, Hawkeye, widow, falcon, and drax are all pretty expendable. Some of them probably die in avengers 3

The movie specifically addressed why Helena was getting stronger like two times. She gets her power from Asgard so the longer she’s there the more powerful she becomes

Did you pay attention to the movie?

Why was Hella getting stronger
They addressed this twice
quote:

They directly stated this - in the beginning of the movie, the fire demon said that if he got the flame of eternity in Odin's vault he would be as big as a mountain and undefeatable. So Thor stopped him in that other dimension before any of that could be put into place. Later, when Thor needed him, he ignited him using the flame of eternity - thus, he's undefeatable and as big as a mountain.
quote:I get that criticism - I think trying to go do so many "realms" plus an alien planet kind of made the jumping around a part of the plot. That chaotic nature was intentional, and I didn't mind it (though I don't want every Marvel movie doing it) But it does sacrifice some things. But as outlined above, there was more plot/info going down than was immediately apparent. Just think about the interplay of family relationships. Odin to his sons. Thor and Loki. How Thor and Hulk act when stuck in the room together.

Thanos/The Sanctuary

Being totally ignorant of the comics, what is Thanos' power? Why do villains like Loki and Ronan rely on him in the first place? Or it's not a reliance thing, but more-so he approaches them to further whatever his endgame is?

Thanos is an "Eternal," which is a branch of humanity that came about through manipulation from Celestials (Grandmaster, Ego, Collector's Race). Thanos himself has an even further mutation and is officially called a Titan/Deviant, which makes him the most powerful titan and therefore, the most powerful Eternal. He has a variety of powers from telepathy to absorbing and releasing energy, superhuman speed, strength, etc.
Thanos gets what we wants because, as of right now he's probably the most powerful thing we've seen in the MCU.

Obviously, we know he is powerful because both Ronan and Loki fear him. But movie viewers don't exactly know why yet. And we only know his current motivation which is to get the Infiniti stones. But we don't know why he wants them. Total power? Total destruction? Those are obvious cliches to the genre.
I was looking for some insight into what makes him feared. And I wasn't sure if he sought out allies or if they sought him.

I saw the movie last night and really enjoyed it.
My one big complaint, probably stated already, was the use of humor at inappropriate times.
They really went with more of an "ad lib" like feel, a la GotG, and I don't think that works well with Thor.
Also, some of the timing of the humor was detrimental to the flow of the action. It would have been a far better scene had Banner turned into the Hulk prior to him landing. Instead we got the (very predictable) "splat" scene.
Good movie, but overdone with the humor.
I did laugh really hard at the "Point Break" joke.
