Why would Greedo shoot first if he was trying to collect a bounty?

Greedo never shot first. I refuse to pretend that the revisions that made him shoot first exist.

Han shot first. That's the end of it.

1) bounty was dead or alive

Or

2) he realised Han was going for his weapon

Boba Fett told Vader in Empire "he's no good to me dead".

That's true, but when Han says, "Over my dead body", Greedo says "That's the idea."

Greedo always planned to kill Han.

Vader didn't want Han. He was testing the carbonite on Han before doing it on Luke.

Darth Vader: You may take Captain Solo to Jabba the Hutt after I have Skywalker.
Boba Fett: He's no good to me dead.
Darth Vader: He will not be permanently damaged.

Boba Fett: What if he doesn't survive? He's worth a lot to me.
Darth Vader: The Empire will compensate you, if he dies. Put him in.

It's probably some dumb continuity thing that Lucas screwed up on. Looking at the quotes, it seemed that either Greedo had different orders from Jabba than anyone else or he was going rogue.

I always had the impression that Boba Fett was going for the higher "alive" bounty, while Greedo was content to bring in a dead Han for a lower bounty.

And there's also Vader warning Fett about "no disintegrations" before he sent them after the Falcon.

I just think Lucas is a poor story teller.

"Avatar":

Why don't the blue, cat people have six limbs and shoulder nostrils when pretty much everything else does?

If they are able to give the human guy the tentacled hair-braid organ, why are they unable to make him a body with the appropriate number of digits to match the blue, cat people?

"Jurassic Park":
How is that Explorer pushed over an ~100ft drop in the same area where the T-rex just walked through the fence?

no, he was really good. he had the basics down and he really knew the genre...he had people around him to fine tune ideas and filter out bad ones. he's an idea man, but all ideas need to be run across people and thrown back to you.

lucas wanted to make it that he was the legendary story teller and downplay the contribution of others like leigh brackett. this is a guy who thinks the best star wars movie is the worst star wars movie.

Donnie Brasco. The basement shooting sequence. Where Sonny Red gets it.

When it's over they send the guy out to get Donnie who is waiting in the car. The guy who gets him is a dick when asked anything and then draws his gun. Walks Donnie down at gunpoint? Seemed like it was just drama added for drama sake? When they get inside everything is fine. Hand Donnie a saw and start chopping bodies?
