Just got out.

Incredible movie. When the transition to restored footage happens, it’s a holy shite moment

Also, staying for the 30 minute portion with Jackson explaining how it all was done is worth it. It was really cool to see

Absolutely

That stare into the camera is still resonating with me. The look of combined uncertainty and terror. Amazing.

Very well put together. What they were able to do with that footage is truly amazing. I highly recommend staying until after the credits to watch the 30 minute short of Peter Jackson describing some of their methods.

Loved that there was no narration. Just the young boys who were there telling their stories. And digitally restored to make it sound like it was just recorded yesterday and not 50 years ago.

I think the only negative aspect about it was it wasn't long enough at only about 90 minutes. And I wish they would have included the naval battles, the early workings of an air force, the war effort from home, etc.

The parts that got me were when they showed the shot of some soldiers when they were alive and smiling then a shot of the same soldiers killed.

From some of the quick glimpses of Jackson's portion after, it looks like he cleaned up some of the naval and air footage - I sure hope he did so it's preserved.

Did you get to the theater late?

Jackson gives a short introduction before the film where he mentions this.

Does the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier count?

Additionally, where can I watch this online? I can't get to BR for the 27th showing. :(

Saw it last night in BR. Very good doc. They were only showing it in 3D here, so I was hesitant about that, but it actually looked pretty awesome in the theater and I was impressed by it. I would still like to see it in 2D though, so hopefully the DVD comes out soon for it.

And agree that the little follow-up doc that aired after the credits was great too. It is incredible to see what they were able to do with the film from literally 100 years ago. The shots they showed in the post doc about the almost all black and all white shots and how they corrected them to be able to see what was happening, that was unreal. It was also cool how he talked about the hardest thing to colorize was the grass and dirt. That was something I never would have thought about, but it made perfect sense the way he explained it.

Just a really cool movie experience and I was glad they expanded the shows here and I was able to see it. The wife enjoyed it as well. Definitely would recommend to anyone even halfway interested in history.

This^
The words read by the captain to his troups before going into battle the next day were accurate NOT MADE UP, and Jackson's description of how he found them is a story in itself. Damn, I loved his commentary at the end.

This makes all the PC documentaries take a running leap off a tall cliff.

I saw it this afternoon. It was awesome. They didn’t mention any specific battles or take it on from an historical perspective, which I thought it would have been. Instead, they try to portray the war from a soldier in the trenches point of view from enlistment to discharge. The soldiers didn’t know the specific battle names or reasons why they were fighting. They just fought it like a job. Not really an emotional or gut wrenching film, but it was refreshing.

Just got back from seeing it with my daughter. We both loved it.

Ditto to what everyone else who saw it said and described.

Side note: probably the highest average IQ of any theater any of us have been in...

Saw it in Memphis tonight.

Most powerful couple hours I’ve ever spent in a movie theater.

If you go you see it you really should stay after the credits and see what went into creating this film. Absolutely mind blowing.

Went and saw this yesterday and literally got chills when the remastered footage comes in with full color and sound. I just sat there in complete awe for a few minutes. Absolutely a groundbreaking film. I hope he makes more with focus on different people during the war. He kind of alluded to that during the little "Making of" after the credits.
