Watched it last night and wow ... one of most powerful things I have seen on screen (maybe ever). Perfect, eerie delivery punctuated by haunting sound design and camera work. Not an easy watch, but a must see IMO.

This is getting a lot of Oscar buzz and I had never heard of it until very recently

It won the second place prize at Cannes (Anatomy of a Fall won) but it hasn’t really generated a lot of buzz in the US since because the release was so far after the premiere. I was hoping the limited release last week included Chicago but I will not be able to see it until next week.

I can’t agree with this enough. It was such a beautifully shot movie with incredibly haunting audio. It stuck with me for several days after.

Would love to watch this but like so many Oscar movies it’s not available until right up to the ceremonies.

It’s annoying.

Let us stream it

Directed by Jonathan Glazer who also did Sexy Beast and Under The Skin. Thanks for posting, wasn’t aware he had a new movie out.

I believe so. Parts of the movie are a bit odd, some are confusing and the ending is rather abrupt. I had to come home and read up on the main character and his wife. It was well done considering the subject matter.

Subtitles too much for you?

This will be unpopular, but I really think this could have been a short film.

Sandra Huller was also in “Anatomy
of a Fall”. She’s great.

I finally saw this. Took forever to come to the local theaters. I knew it was about the "banality of evil" but I didn't realize how effective it would be. The horrors are at the edge of the frame, and in the background sounds, and in the ordinary conversations. There was some weird editing, and one of the craziest soundtracks I've ever heard.

It should win Best Picture but it won't.

I think the competition is close for Best Picture, but it baffles me that Zone wasn’t nominated for cinematography.

Same. Truly an unbelievably striking film.

SPOILER:

So many powerful scenes, but in particular, over breakfast when Hedwig nonchalantly notes, "I could have my husband spread your ashes across the fields of Babice," my jaw dropped.

Even the score for the ending credits made me uncomfortable. When nobody was getting up at my showing I assumed we needed to stay for something.

Recency bias in my case, but it's very possible that I would vote for it as Best Picture.

Without a doubt, I would give it Best Sound.

100% agree. I still like Oppenheimer for Best Picture, but it was only enhanced by its Sound. Zone is defined by it and it’s so masterfully used throughout the entire film instead of certain scenes in Oppenheimer.
