The Witcher season 2 will have a 'much more focused' story
The priority for the first season of The Witcher, showrunner Lauren Hissrich said in November, was setting up stories "that really capture audiences for years at a time." With the show now live and a second officially locked down, Hissrich gave GamesRadar some insight into what fans can expect in season two.
"What’s great about season two, I can tell you, is that, in what we’ve written, the story becomes much more focused. There’s a stronger drive in the story, because all of the relationships that we’ve been setting up in season one actually start to come into fruition in season two," Hissrich said.
"Characters start meeting and interacting more. That goes well sometimes. It doesn’t go well sometimes. But it’s kind of like, all of those building blocks that we set up for the world finally start to come together into something a little more concrete."

They are basing this series off the books and not the game. Seems like some people will have a problem with this down the road.
I have not read the books or played the games. I liked the 1st season. I watched it over the weekend, I think it would have been better as a slow burn. That is not Netflix style.
Does anyone know if the books series is complete?
They should not have a problem seeing as how the the GAME take place right after the book series end and Geralt relationship and everything is kinda reset.

Just started the series. Loving it so far. As I’m sure has been said, Cavil kills this role.
Them trashing his clothes early on was killing me, just like the game
CGI budget obviously a little lacking, but hopefully that will improve if the show catches on.

The Yennefer chick is straight fire and manna from heaven.
Good gracious. First time I've seen this actress and she may be the finest thing to hit my 30" screen ever.

If you’ve played the games, you’ll love it. They absolutely nail the combat and tone/pacing.

Not a fan of the Triss casting
Redhead Triss is Bae.

Who was the mage with the Demon Spider that was chasing Yennefor and the baby? He just kind of disappeared after hunting that baby

I believe he was just a random assassin hired to kill the queen and her baby.

The visuals are incredible.
The acting is laughable.
The storyline is cheesy, all over the place, and mostly trash.
Very good for light watching. Will continue to watch more seasons but GOT 2.0 it is not.
That’s because it’s not supposed to be GOT 2.0 you dummy.
And if you can’t understand what they did with the storyline, you won’t ever get the series.

He's entitled to his opinion, but I agree that the story was kinda all over the place. I know that was by design but it doesn't make it any less of a flaw. I feel like that will improve in the second season when they launch into the actual narrative of the novels.
I will give the show creators this, they had balls adapting the short stories first instead of beginning with the main novels. A general rule of thumb is to either adapt the main narrative first or fold the short stories into the main narrative adaptation in some form or fashion. The producers showed respect for the fans and the source material by giving the short stories their own season.

Finished it last night. As a fan of the game (I only played Witcher 3) they fricking nailed 99% of it. Cavill is obviously passionate about the role.
For those complaining about Cavill's acting. Understand that Geralt is emotionally stunted and has a deep monotone voice (just like the game) - ergo Cavill nailed it.

Yea the acting has been perfect almost all the way around. It is clear they wanted the interactions to be very video game like. I thought it has been fantastic so far. Yes cheesy, but so are the games.
As far as the Yennefer story goes, is the beginning stuff a flashback? At the ball thing it showed little Adda and Falston. So is that part showing us stuff before the Geralt timeline we are following?

I'm seeing a lot of hate for this on social media.
The MSN review is not kind.

What it lacks, though, is tonal consistency. This is a show with moments of drama and of gruesome violence cut through with a glancing humor that too often feels tossed-off and out-of-place in the world the show has created. The show’s dramatic sensibility is intense and indulgent, crafting action sequences whose length bulks out episodes past hourlong running times. Its comic sensibility is puerile and a bit sarcastic. Indeed, Henry Cavill’s “Witcher,” a hunter of supernatural beings, and his frequent scene partner, Joey Batey’s jester and bard Jaskier, can feel like a TV pairing less serendipitously unlikely than discordant — a regular Jon Snow and Butt-Head.
Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia is among a dying breed of witchers, and he faces down his situation with a sort of mournful, cynical gravity cut through with bitter wit. The actor, known for his work as Superman in DC Comics films, is perhaps not built to be a Deadpool-style one-liner machine, and the pitched-down, gravelly affect he adds to his voice makes witticisms drag. I don’t believe someone this self-serious would claim to have had his “arse kicked by a ragged band of elves.” (By contrast, he somehow manages to sell Geralt’s moroseness of being truly alone in his wisdom.) Jaskier’s nattering insertions, asking Gerald in one fraught instance if he’s “perhaps short of a marble,” have the shape of jokes but need either punch-up or to be minimized to allow an overstuffed story room to breathe.
For it’s not just Geralt and Jaskier demanding our attention. This universe feels crowded, often in good ways — we’ll meet some new doctor or local potentate who could, perhaps, anchor a whole episode, and see tantalizingly just enough of them. But the main cast also includes Anya Chalotra as the sorceress Yennefer and Freya Allan as a princess coming into her power; those two occupy not just subplots but entire wings’ worth of story. That leaves “Witcher” episodes both overlong and centerless. There’s not quite enough fully developed characters to make this feel like a big ensemble show like “Thrones,” and so we crave a single center of gravity. The decentralized aspect of “The Witcher,” instead, emphasizes certain faults, like how Cavill doesn’t quite embody the Han Solo aspect of his roguish-hero role enough to hold the screen fully.

From the “Hmmm’s” to the “frick” he is absolutely spot on from the game. All we need is a “Wind’s howling” next season and we’re set.

Got it, I’ll see how it unfolds.
I just got done with the episode where Yen has her transformation. In that one Foltest was a child, but Geralt was helping him as a king. So, those are just two different story lines at different points in time?

Someone never played the video games
They’ve really done a good job of making it feel like the games. Get a good quest, shite is hectic, awesome combat. Then go frick off on side missions for a while because everything is so pretty

I've been enjoying the show, I beat the 2nd and 3rd game as well have read the first book. I agree with most, Henry nails Geralt to a tee. I also agree with the timelines, it's very difficult to keep up with past and present especially without them giving you a reference. I was worried the female cast was not going to work but Yennefer is great with Triss somewhat there.
