That's like telling someone not to watch Casablanca because better movies have come out since then.

I've never seen Casablanca. I don't feel like I'm missing anything.

You're either 80 years old or retarded. I'm leaning towards retarded to have seen this stale TV show 11 times, and watching It again.

Just a bunch of snobs here that think everyone should enjoy what they say is enjoyable. The Wire is a shite series.

Its a good show but its not gonna amaze you in any way. Theres better stuff out there. The wire is very good at what it does, but its still just a crime/legal soap opera with a more serious tone.

The biggest 'badass' in the show is a fig. The best actor is young vince and friday night lights is a better version of him and a better show.

My favorite part of these threads are the people telling others they are wrong and should watch a show when no one is telling them they should not.

Idk it just didnt click with me. Maybe it’s because i never watched it while it was on then i watched the Shield. The Shield is top notch tv imo. I really tried to watch the Wire to see what the hype was all about. None of the main characters were interesting either.

That’s weird to me. They are both OG crime drama series but Wire balances more between the police and the criminals (and others) while Shield is almost entirely focused on the police. I liked both a lot but would put Wire higher because of the different perspectives. And McNulty going off the rails all the time was funny.

Ah yeah, the police-DA-Courts-politicians frickery is thick too, especially as the series moves along.

The only negative thing I can objectively think of about The Wire is that it is old (but OG) so it looks and feels kinda old and maybe for some the pacing is slower than more modern shows.

I mean, that's just asinine to say. And provably wrong.

Look, it can't be for literally everybody. That's fine. I can't stand Seinfeld, but that doesn't mean it's a bad show. It's consistently listed at or near the top of the best sitcoms of all time. It just so happens that I just don't like it. But I wouldn't sit back and say "Seinfeld is a shitty and terrible show, you bunch of snobs," because then I'd look stupid.

It's definitely dated now, on the technology alone. But that's not a knock against it as much as it makes it sort of a time capsule of that period, IMO.

Lots of older shows and movies suffer the same thing. I almost watch the Sandra Bullock movie The Net the other day, just because I wanted to see how dated the computer shite was on it.

He also said this earlier:

It's not bad but it shouldn't receive the praise it gets because it doesn't hold up well.
Dude can't make up his mind and then donned his "I haven't seen Casablanca and I don't care to" badge.

Posters like him are hilariously ridiculous.

The Wire is a shite series.

The Wire is to tv cop dramas what The Beatles were to pop music.

You can appreciate them for what they did rather than on how modern audiences judge them based on content alone.

The Wire took a very successful show like Homicide: Life on the Street, and made a better reboot. They made the tv cop drama better.

The Wire showed us glimpses of the daily lives of “the bad guys” juxtaposed against the sordid lives of the cops. Every cop was flawed, just as every criminal had some redeeming qualities. They successfully broke away even further from the old western white hat vs black hat contrast tv used to embrace. It showed us complex characters and inner workings of both sides of the criminal behavior battle.

The series was cleverly done with each season taking a major crime that needed to be solved, and then taking all season to solve it instead of giving us each episode with a totally new crime that gets resolved in an hour.

Each season focused on a different aspect of the problems with criminal behavior.

And they cleverly employed many actors from Homicide: Life on the Street as an homage to what inspired a more ambitious reboot.

And it still holds up far better compared to "copaganda" shows.

The pacing on The Shield is 100x better and makes it a better rewatch IMO, but I leaned toward The Wire in overall.

WTF would I watch Casablanca? I have no interest in that. Give me the 3 Stooges.

The Wire had decent moments but as an overall series, I feel it's shite. I would never recommend it to anyone like you plebs on this board do.

No one cares what you watch, toadstool.

I'll take IMDB, RT, Metacritic collective ratings and reviews over your, "muh, it's shite" simpletonness.

Great. Happy for you. I watched the Wire because it was recommended by most of the board here. It was a chore to get through and it's definitely one of the few series you ALL got wrong.

I use this board as a recommendation for movies and TV series. Mobland is infinitely more enjoyable than the Wire could ever be. In fact it's safe to say the Wire is shite compared side by side with it.

I don't use Rotten tomatoes anymore because I found their rating was BS.

Most of you watch damn near everything that comes out. I don't want to watch everything. Just a series no more than 5 seasons of entertainment. Every now and then I take yalls advice on something that catches my eye.
