HBO has ordered another season of Mike White’s “The White Lotus,” a vicious, buzzy satire set at an ornate Hawaiian resort. According to HBO, its second installment will leave Hawaii “and follows a different group of vacationers as they jet to another White Lotus property and settle in temporarily amongst its inhabitants.”

In interviews, White — who wrote and directed every episode of the first season — has said he’d want to do more of the show, anthology-style, set at a different resort somewhere else in the world. And though that means saying goodbye to the cast of Season 1, White told IndieWire that perhaps “some of them would come back” to play the same characters.

In Caroline Framke’s review of “The White Lotus” for Variety, she called the show “a fascinating trick of light that bends its interlocking stories with the kind of impressive dexterity we’ve come to expect from White. By the time you get used to this show’s rhythms, it’s already shifted into something else entirely.”

This feels like a 'True Detective' scenario.

They must have liked the final episode a lot, because while entertaining at the moment with nothing else to watch, unless something crazy happens this Sunday it felt like an entertaining one and done.

Sure I’ll probably watch it next summer when nothing else is on .

If you remove the resort manager and two sets of world class breasts spilling out of bikinis, then the show loses a lot of its appeal.

Casting for season 1 was perfect. Season 2 seems doomed to fail unless they nail the casting again.

Be a nice gig for White. Every year he goes and shoots a season at some exotic resort that HBO rents out. There are worse jobs.

The great tits are definitely a plus, but I can’t imagine actually watching something for hours just because a couple of the actresses are hot.

Apparently, they shot the show at a resort that was closed due to COVID. It was a way to hire back some resort employees that were out of work, they just had to live at the place during filming. (They did a similar thing for the past season of the Great British Baking Show) The cast and crew stayed at the place along with resort workers. All of the extras are basically employees or family members of the cast and crew.

I can roll with an anthology type show. I have little interest in this current storyline past this last episode. I want it wrapped up nicely and neatly. It’s not great, but I’ve enjoyed it so far. I’d check out a second season.

Holding out for another pair of similarities to True Detective.

This rarely works out well. I have enjoyed the first season though.

Hopefully they take their time so we don't end up with a TD season 2.

Maybe, but mike white had at least been around the block a few times, unlike the true detective guy who was out of his depth.

I’m in. It has a good balance and vibe. The arse eating was pretty striking. A funny side story is Uncle Rico running game on Stifler’s mom

Welp, there goes my theory that Armond burns the hotel down in the end

while that almost certainly isn't going to happen, it could still happen. the other seasons will be at a different location.
