I spent most of last night's episode yelling "I hope that stupid fricking bitch gets bit right in the face" (while Andrea was holding her sister).
me too
that bitch is bathing in a zombie virus cocktail for 12 hours over some baby sister she never made time for? and she's going to pull a gun on rick when he walks over? and she's going to wait for her to turn and try and make out with her? then she's going to blow her brains out point blank?
INFECT THIS TROLLOP

Wrong she was bitten.

Rick shoots the little zombie chick in the opening scene. Had the outbreak already started at that point, or was that some kind of flashforward type deal?
Yeah that was Rick when he was on his way to ATL. Then it went backwards immediately after to before it all happened. That was presumably his first encounter with something he realized made it even harder to kill these zombies, even after mercifully killing the zombie crawling through the park and the guy who used to be his co-worker.

I just do not think that they would have not caught the disease by now.
I agree, it seems like most of them should have gotten it by now, not to mention everyone else in the world succumb to it, what makes these small town hick's so special? But then again, we don't know everything there is to know about this particular disease. Perhaps it's not something that you can catch casually even through blood getting on you?

This virus is IN THE BLOOD... and none of them (again... except for Daryl) seem to have fricking figured that out yet.
I love the show but in reality they would all be infected by now... IRL they keep these types of epidemics contained in Level 4 hot zones... on the show they portray it as ok to bathe in the blood as long as you don't get bit.
This is the hardest part on this show to grasp. Anybody with a brain should be able to deduce it's a virus carried in the blood and saliva of the infected. It's obviously not an airborne virus...but why the constant bathing in blood. It doesn't make much sense to me. They should be investing in gloves and headgear stat.
In fact, if it was possible the best defense would probably be some type of armored suit with a welders hat if possible.
I'm just going to be honest and say anything short of a suit of armor or full body suit and these folks would have been dead by now in all reality. No way you have that much exposure without contraction.

I thought scratched. but yeah, either way we don't know of anyone for sure that got it from having come in contact with blood.

It was a flash forward if when he is traveling to Atlanta and his car runs out of fuel, right before he grabs that horse. I think.

Here's the EW article with Robert Kirkman talking a bit about the season, last night's ep, tease for next week and how closely the show will/will not follow the comic.

Well this makes it a bit more feasible then. Perhaps a zombie was the result of some sick bio engineering experiment and it got loose. Or a scientist accidentally got infected and spread t to his family or at a hospital when being treated for the high fever.

This. we haven't touched on this much.
i could have swore that fizzing/burning sample went thru his glove. no one else see this?

Maybe it's something that only comes through saliva and fingernails.
But if you get bit then you turn... that has to be because the virus has entered your blood stream... which would lead me to believe that it's a blood-borne virus.

Night time was approaching, they had little to no gas etc..
Right, so why go then? It seemed CDC was a lot closer than the army base, which they kept saying was "100 miles away" (and the asian said it was 125). So that's only several hours away. Seems like if they wanted to hit up CDC, they'd leave in the morning, so that if it was a dead end, they wouldn't be stranded there at night.
Just doesn't seem to be a logical decision.

It is shown that ampliflication is slow so that was by and large human blood on her....I doubt there was much concern for infection no matter how long. As long as she wasn't scratched there is little concern of infection. I mean I am assuming an model of a typical blood/saliva borne pathogen like Marbug/Ebola, but still.....
If you want to point to absurdities, look at Rick and Glen covering themselves in rotten zombie mash from head to toe and coming out okay.
I would want to take a bath in a Lysol swimming pool after that shite

Well, I think we've figured out there was a skip in the timeline of events... it goes from when the radiator hose goes out and Shane says he's gonna head down the road to see if he can find one to when the RV is repaired and Jim wants to be left behind. It may have been a few hours between when Shane left and they fixed the RV?

But... when she decides to give sis a hug and splatter her brains all over the place she had already "turned". That was definitely infected blood she was spraying everywhere. Something as small as a droplet from that blood mist getting in your eye or mouth could potentially infect you.

Actually they all did... they were going around bashing zombies in the head with pick axes and shite. You don't think that blood spatter was all over the place? Right after I hit up the gun shop for supplies the second thing I'd be looking for would be ski goggles or a face shield... you can't go around zombie bashing without the proper PPE.

well granted I don't know shite about virology but how does Rabies work?
Posted on 11/29/10 at 12:46 pm to Michael J Cocks
Rabies travels through the central nervous system... but the virus in Walking Dead seems more like a blood-borne virus.
