Shane is holding it together by a thread. He and Rick are going to boil over at some point. He just can't let go of Carl and now with Laurie pregnant, he's going to be even more tense. Dale was right on though, Shane has cut all ties with normalcy, save for the desire to raise and protect Carl. For a minute, I thought Shane was going to try and rally everyone to kill Herschel and take over the farm.
I think Carol is obviously going to be the one to ground Darrel to the group and keep him from setting off at some point.

Yup. One scene that really captures that for me is when Lori has Carl doing math problems. WTF
My daughter was watching this with me, and she said the same thing.

I can definitely see them hooking up in the near future.
Rick has Lori, Shane has Andrea, Glen has Maggie, Daryl needs some.

I agree with all your points about this episode.
This was the best episode of the season and maybe the series. It brought all of the farm plot to resolution. It all paid off to me. It really let us in on what is most important to surviving this thing.
And I'll reiterate a point I stumbled upon in one of the multiple threads about zombies: Perhaps it's best to not survive with family members due to the fact that they cannot be separated. Sophia is a perfect example of that.

Does anyone think that Meryl is going to come back at some point in a non-hallucinatory role?

The actors playing both Merle and Daryl have strongly hinted at it.

Knowing comics, and not these comics, just comics you better believe that a character that has escaped and has a grudge - especially in a post-apoctalyptic world - is going to amount a series of baddies and come into the picture as the leader of some wretched gang of brutes.

No fear of spoilers as neither Merle nor Daryl were in the comics.

I agree that Merle is likely to come back with a gang of thugs at some point but that is so predictable I'm almost not looking forward to it.
I think it would be better if he came in helped save the group from thugs to reunite with his brother in some sort of rehabbed state. Then you can open it up for him to turn bad again after some other event like hearing the group talk about how they don't trust him.

I think Merle is going to come back, but not with a gang of thugs. I think he is coming back on his own, and going to go after some people guerrilla style

I loved Shane taking a break from shooting the barn walkers to turn around and pop off the one Rick was holding.

And then at the end when the group saw Sophia, and then Herschel's point rang true (since it was someone they cared about and invested so much time in). Glad to see Rick step up and shoot her though.
agree completely. shane, as usual, wasn't thinking about things from someone else's view. when sophia stepped out it made him look like a dick, whether he was right or not.

Read the thread, and have a question that hasn't been answered/addressed.
When Herschel got Rick to help him round up the zombies, why were the zombies just stuck in the swamp? Did they set up traps or something? Didn't really explain it unless I missed that part.

Yep. It was a little different when the zombie staggering toward them was someone they knew.
And who stepped up in the end? Who took all the responsibility in his shoulders for Sophia? Rick. He's the leader of this group because he can makes the hard choices for everybody and take on the weight of his actions. Shane can't. He's does whatever he pleases, rushing into things without thinking. And then what happens in the end? He looks like an idiot.
And Daryll is no leader. Dude is a beta to a dominant alpha, whether that be Rick or Shane. He jumped right at the chance to follow Shane, but also was helping find Sophia at all costs.

And the look on his face showed that he kinda realized that he was (not that he would, or should, care either way though).
Also, more thoughts that I forgot about earlier:
I'm sure it dawned on Herschel that the group was looking for a little girl, and one stumbled onto his property days before. Interested to see how that plays out in the second half.
Glad to see Darryl call a spade a spade with Carol. All these people, especially him, are risking their lives looking for her daughter, and she has the balls to not even have hope that she's alive and they'll find her? Stupid bitch is right.
Carl doing homework made me laugh. He should be being taught survival and labor skills, not word problems, which he'll never need again. That was just weird and out of place.
Agreed that the show needs more backstories...not only to make us care about the characters more, but also because it's hella interesting to see flashbacks to see how shite got exactly to where it is now.
Also agreed that Shane pausing to shoot the walker Rick had was awesome.

I disagree... I think it proved Shane even more correct. He was the only one that kept saying "she's dead, and looking for her anymore will only hurt us". Shane was always of the opinion that once you are bitten you are dead to him.
Also another question and this was brought up a little earlier...
It's been said that the disease only takes effect after a person is dead, and brings them back to life. However people like Otis are eaten entirely can't of coarse come back... So to become a walker.. you must be bitten, and then die.. and not simply bitten.
This being said it is believed Sophia was bitten.. ran away from the attacker and then bleed out and died on her own to become a walker?

It almost seemed like Carol had even cleaned up a bit in an attempt to impress Darryl. Did she always wear those earrings or was that something new?

I believe thats to be the case. Darryl had found her little nook where she slept and then her doll. She most likely was bit and ran away.
