I wish I could've seen the ending before I'd heard all about it.

That or Breaking Bad. The two greatest shows ever created.
GOT 1-5 and The Wire say hello.
All four are fantastic, btw.

OK, so I was late to the party but actually glad. Wife and I have been watching it since late January
Same here. Just about done with the last season. It’s been a hell of a ride.

Of course, my wife hated it. I don’t hate it but it reminded me of the way the movie, The Wrestler ended.

It makes sense, if you paid attention to things that were said by Tony throughout the whole show.
Don't get too hung up on it. Starting planning a rewatch already because it's the best damn thing out there.
shite, I can't tell you how many times I'm looking at Netflix, Max, Hulu, etc. for something new to watch and I opt for a glass of OJ with shum pulp and continue onto the next episode in line of The Sopranos.

Was the "Christopher" of that chromosome family the one in the Members Only jacket in the diner and whacked TS?

I always took it as Butchie sacrificing Phil, taking his seat as boss and then continuing with the original plan of “decapitate and do business with whatever is left.”
There was no way all of the 200 soldiers in the Lupertazzi family were going to be okay with Jersey killing a boss in front of his wife (Only Butchie and a few other captains know about the deal with Tony).
So in the end New York absorbs New Jersey, Patsy gets a promotion, and Paulie keeps on surviving.

I spent 9 days on business in Morristown, NJ back in 2018. Near the city, near the Sopranos hotspots. The only thing I ended up seeing was the "Bada Bing" twice from the interstate. It was actually a strip club, but not named Bada Bing. Name was something else. No, I did not go in.
I'm kicking myself for not driving over to North Caldwell to see the real life house that "belonged to Tony and Carmella" - pretty sure it's close to the neighborhood Trump's son in law grew up in. Ivanka's husband.
Also, I think Satriale's was gutted and made into a completely different restaurant or store, I think in Newark (or Elizabeth?). Still wish I'd made time to go park on the street there and look like an idiot asking locals where Satriale's is.
So I pussed out and only saw The Bing from a distance.

I think this is what happened. Patsy wanted to kill Tony, and Paulie gave him the ok. Its super subtle and I didn't come across the realization on my own, but there's a scene in one of the last episodes where Paulie passes Patsy in the bathroom and says "it's all yours kid", giving his blessing for the hit.
The thing with the twin brother, whatever happened there, is a factor as well. Carlo (white haired dude that stabbed fat Dom with Sil) was pinched and cooperating with the alphabet boys so hes not a factor. Butch had already taken Phil's spot. There's other theories out there but I always come back to Paulie feeling like Tony would whack him, Patsy already having legit beef and playing nice with meadow and his son dating to appease Tony, and the bathroom scene with a totally out of context "it's all yours kid".
Also, when Tony offers Paulie Carlo's crew Paulie turns him down, and Tony says he'll give it to Patsy which makes Paulie super uncomfortable. Probably because there's a possibility that Patsy would rat Paulie out to Tony.
Right or wrong this is why I love the ambiguous ending, gets the mind goin. To me it's Paulie and Patsy all the way. Like others have said this show is incredible on the rewatches.

Paulie was only about paulie. That was clear from the first episode. And patsy hated tony for what happened to his brother. Both seemed like they would be just fine working for NY rather than Jersey and NY from carmine to Johnny to Phil to butchie all felt like Jersey was just a glorified crew. Every time in six seasons to y was referred to as a “boss” there would be a sneer from NY.
It was inevitable and that’s one of the things I liked about the show, Tony’s entire life was always a temporary house of cards
