I used to train (weights) with Mark Kerr in Scottsdale, One hell of a nice guy who obviously had/has his demons. His ex-wife played by Blunt used to (30 ys ago) be one of the hottest women in Scottsdale and to say she didn't age well is an understatement but her and Kerr raised a great son together. Ran into him in Home Depot about a month ago and we discussed the movie and his friendship with The Rock. I was unaware that he had remarried to a woman I used to be friends with and seems happy.

His story isn't as compelling because he's just a crazy arse MFer that likes hurting people. there isn't the same level of internal delemma that Mark Kerr faced.

Man I feel like those early UFC fighters were truly some bad hombres. A level above what we have now in terms of savagery and toughness.

Back in HS we used to watch all of the UFC PPVs. I believe they would come out on tape fairly quickly as well, so we could rent them and watch them that way too.

But those first 5 or so tournaments were fun as hell, even though I absolutely hated Royce Gracie because he never "fought" and used his gi to submit people and get them to tap. I remember screaming at the TV about how unfair that was.

I remember Tank Abbott and Ken Shamrock (?) fighting for like 30 minutes and it was boring as frick.

I remember when Dan Severn finally won and Gracie didn't. I loved Savern.

I remember the one black dude (can't remember his name...Pat something?) who did the running front kick and just peelayed some dude in the chest. That was badass.

I think back in those first UFC tournament PPVs the only rules were no biting and no eye gouging.

Good times...

Don Frye is one of the scariest human beings I've ever seen. Just to see someone built like a shite brickhouse with the power he had was incredible. If he ever wanted to kill you, there's absolutely nothing you could do to stop him.

Isn't Mark Kerr white? Is The Rock playing a white dude?

Sounds like you were watching UFC 4 live when the interviewer asked Dan Severn what he was going to do to prepare to face Royce Gracie.

Dan’s trainer, wrestler Al Snow, was a smartass and said that Dan was going to go wear himself out having sex in the back.

Pat Militech?

Edit - Wrong Pat. Looks like Patrick Smith, a former K1 kickboxer.

Yeah, Pat Smith. That sounds right.

Found the kick. From UFC 6 apparently:
