As great as Gandolfini was as Tony Soprano, Chiklis' Vic Mackey was oh so close to that.

I literally told a guy at work this recently . He has never seen it. I said have you watched sopranos? He said yea. I said did you like it and root for Tony? He said yea. I said well Vic Mackey is basically a cop version of Tony soprano.

Also, it just got put on prime last month and I did a rewatch. First time I seen it probably since it went off air.

It is awesome and I feel it gets better and better each season, That last episode was still emotional even though I knew what was coming. Freaking great show.

Are you a relative of Mr. Johson?

No, just think he did a great job directing both those shows' early episodes. He's a big reason why they are great.

Also, Scott Brazil worked on The Shield and his pedigree goes back to Hill Street Blues, more or less the grandaddy of these great dramas.

Feel it was the true beginning of cable TV pushing the boundaries and bringing a whole new era to TV series.

FX really pushed the boundaries starting with The Shield. Over the next 8 years we also saw the release of Nip/Tuck, Rescue Me, SOA, and Justified.

Also, IIRC correctly during that time Always Sunny and Archer hit the tube.

A great rollercoaster of a show. Had knots in my stomach half the time with this weird feeling about who to pull for.

Season 5 will always be my favorite season of any television show.

Forest Whitaker joining the cast was perfect casting. Jon Kavanaugh was a menace.

Might be a "hot take", but the Shield is better than the Wire.

Not a hot take. I know it's a better rewatch too. I may place The Wire higher but rewatching both? I never finish The Wire but I'm glued to The Shield.

Some of yall may have seen this as this came out several years ago, but it’s a great cast reunion. Highly recommend for all shield fans.
