and when will that be? 2 yrs, 3 maybe, or not at all

you know they destroyed all the sets right? they arent making any more unless and until this movie makes so much money they have to make another one.

this has already been covered in this thread, they have nothing left from this movie so to make another one they have to start over from nothing so you aint gonna see the next movie for at least a year or two, if ever

Well just a few days ago DV said they will start production by the end of the summer and they've kept the Oct. 20th 2023 release date. So...

The problem with the sequel is obvious - Chalamet and Zendaya are, obviously, the weak links, Chalamet particularly so. If he doesn't mature into the role super fast and in a hurry, there is trouble brewing.

However, one cannot be "a huge David Lynch fan" and think the 1984 film is "absolute dog shite." Not possible.

I kind of agree with this. Although there are huge Tarantino fans that think The Hateful Eight was "absolute dog shite." I guess it can happen, but I don't see it either.

People want to talk about how it should have been is really how they want to it to be made, not how it should be. Everybody wanted the Hobbit into a trilogy. It was a disaster because it should have been one movie, or two at the max.

I seem to recall the opposite. I remember us saying that the Battle of Five Armies doesn’t have enough material for it’s own movie. It should have been 30 minutes of the end of the second movie, but they stretched it out to the point of being a joke.

You can be a Lynch fan and recognize how his hands were tied in making the 1984 film. You can be a Lynch fan and not be crazy about the artistic choices he made with the material (forced or voluntary), the limitations of a single film treatment, the availability of film technology at the time, etc.

The film was deeply flawed and simultaneously wonderful in its own way.

This. Of course instead of a busted VHS tape I now own a DVD and digital copy. I'll put it on some nights to fall asleep to. Especially since I have almost all the dialogue memorized.

Villeneuve took Dune to the next level. But I'll always love Lynch's version.

saying its "going to happen" is a long way from a firm date to start filming it. also, "going to happen" could end up being in 2023 or even 2030, or never mind, sorry but we decided we are not doing it at all now.

but none of that really matters when it all comes down to, going to a movie isnt supposed to be like binge watching old matlock reruns.

when i go to a movie, it is supposed to have a beginning, middle, and ending, in that one movie, PERIOD.

im not watching a movie in 2022 just to see the beginning, then wait until 2025 to see part 2 of the same unfinished movie, just to see the middle of the story, then wait until 2027 to finally see the end of the movie.

movies in theaters are not supposed to be in 5 parts like a made for TV mini series

every one of those movies, EVERY SINGLE ONE.

had its own separate plot and story line with a beginning, middle, and ending, of each story line, by the end of that movie

your example makes no sense but i guess that is the best you can do to defend the indefensible

Fellowship just ends. It leaves you hanging in the same way Dune did.

It’s not a remake, dummy. You do realize it’s a book, right?

Okay, so guess I’m a dummy. Can someone explain the word “remake”?

I pretty much assumed it was a general term for a movie that was getting made again after it had been previously made, with no major changes to the characters or the plot.

The term re-boot I thought meant a re-envisioning of the source material, made into a movie of a similar title, and same main characters, but substantially different, often a different story altogether.

What? Ignoring the “everybody,” I don’t remember this view point even being expressed. Everyone here thought it a bad movie to make a trilogy from a book that was shorter than any of the LOTR books.

Agreed. I found it boring and slow. Didn't like the first either. I guess I'm just not a fan of Dune.

So you are a book snob without having actually read the book?
These threads are always full of posts like this and it cracks me up. I didn’t know shite about Dune and was able to follow the story fine. Did I know every detail or backstory? Obviously not but the book guys love to make it out to be some ungraspable concept above the heads for anyone unfamiliar.

Cue the “you don’t know what you don’t know so you couldn’t have possible understood!”

That might have come off a little strong but you get the gist of it

No, but it probably had to do with how well-known the source material is vs. any previous adaptations.

The recent Nightmare Alley is commonly called a remake even though both it and the 1940s movie version are both adaptations of a pulp novel. Neither the first movie nor the novel are household names, but the first movie is a classic of American noir cinema. The only person who'd take issue with calling this new film a remake would be its director, Guillermo del Toro, who says it's a new adaptation of the novel. Because of course he does.

The Dune novel is one of the best selling and most influential genre novels of the 20th century, and it still holds enormous cultural capital. The 1980s David Lynch film adaptation is a notorious flop that few people saw at the time of its release, and has drawn only a niche audience since. Calling the new movie a remake of a financial flop that most people who've seen have hated, when the source material is both famous and adored, feels weird.

You’ve gone too far and overstated your point in this case, I think. Nevertheless, thank you for a straight answer.

Just watched this in a theater, I also thought it sucked which is astounding with the handful of good actors and actresses in it.

I have very little interest in watching the sequel.

Did you read the book?

Honestly, they should have been done as a multiple season series.

I'm sure there has been threads about the remake but I am into 1 1/2 hours of this so called remake and it sucks. I saw the original in the theater and maybe I watched the original too many times. This remake misses the mark on so many different things. I'll take the original and leave it as is. IMO, never redo something that was absolutely great.

Yeah...This is not going to be a popularly shared opinion.
