The Punisher and Jessica Jones offically cancelled by Netflix

“Marvel’s The Punisher will not return for a third season on Netflix,” Netflix confirmed today to Deadline. “Showrunner Steve Lightfoot, the terrific crew, and exceptional cast including star Jon Bernthal, delivered an acclaimed and compelling series for fans, and we are proud to showcase their work on Netflix for years to come,” the streamer added.
“In addition, in reviewing our Marvel programming, we have decided that the upcoming third season will also be the final season for Marvel’s Jessica Jones,” Netflix also made official this President’s Day. “We are grateful to showrunner Melissa Rosenberg, star Krysten Ritter and the entire cast and crew, for three incredible seasons of this groundbreaking series, which was recognized by the Peabody Awards among many others”.
Not unexpected, but Marvel TV president gave hope that we could see a revival.
quote:
“On behalf of everyone at Marvel Television, we couldn’t be more proud or more grateful to our audience,” the Jeph Loeb-led Marvel TV said after Deadline exclusively broke the news of the duel cancelation. “Our Network partner may have decided they no longer want to continue telling the tales of these great characters… but you know Marvel better than that,” the company added.
“As Matthew Murdock’s Dad once said, ‘The measure of a man is not how he gets knocked to the mat, it’s how he gets back up,'” Marvel declared with a shout-out to Daredevil, its first series on Netflix back on April 10, 2015. “To be continued…!”

Not surprised. Still haven’t finished Season 2 of Punisher. Got bored with it half way through. Same as I did in season 1. Hard to binge for me.
Never seen one episode of JJ

This isn't about the quality of the shows, it's about not subsidizing a direct competitor or advertising the Marvel brand that Disney will be featuring on their service.

Season 1 is great because Killgrave is one of the best villains. You do have to power through the first 3-4 episodes to get to Killgrave, but once you do it's worth it.

Hopefully Punisher reappears there.

It’s Netflix that cancelled them, not Marvel. They could easily revive them on their own streaming service or Hulu

Netflix just didn't want to spend money on something that was going to be taken over by Disney soon and didn't want to give them free profits.

This was a Netflix decision, not a Disney decision. It's a stupid one at that. Regular TV networks have no problem airing shows developed by competition.

Disney is starting their own streaming service and will pull all of its movies/shows from other services like Netflix. This is no surprise and had been known for sometime. I'm sure they will start their own Marvel shows once their site is up and running.

Pretty sure Netflix retains the rights for like 2 more years

Same here, I'm stuck at the halfway mark of S2. Liked the first episode but after that I couldn't get into it.

They do but the clock started on Luke Cage and Iron Fist in October 2018. That should mean as early as November 2020 you could see a reboot with those characters. That would probably mean shooting in spring of 2020 which isn't that far away.

The difference is that the networks aren't working with shows that are scheduled to have the option to leave their network and move on to another.
The network format for 99% of their shows is to run them until cancelled, with cancellation being the end of that show.

I’d still like to see Daredevil move to the big screen MCU. The story, character and lead actor are all too good not to have in the movies. Perhaps the Black Widow stand-alone could help that transition? BW & DD have a history in the comics.

Yes I know Disney is starting their own streaming channel. That doesn't change that other TV networks don't have an issue with airing shows developed by their competition. Those shows tend to have a higher ratings threshold to avoid cancellation but either way it's not like airing something that isn't yours is a bad thing.
Is Netflix going to cancel Sabrina too since WB is going to pull all their CW stuff and movies to start their own streaming network as well?

I'm honestly not disappointed about Punisher getting cancelled. S2 wasn't very good.
Never seen JJ.
