I liked it, excited for the series but penguin himself was all over the place. He’s a softy, he’s insane, he’s dumb, he’s brilliant, he’s calculating, he’s impulsive. The waddle was too over the top, it wasn’t as overstated in the movie. I’m sure it’s the first episode so they might’ve tried to please everyone by doing this and it’ll likely settle down. Story was good, characters interesting so I’m optimistic.

I went into it with the "meh" attitude after seeing both Marvel and DC put out such crap.
Damn, was I wrong! Collin's Soprano-ish take on Penguin is fricking great as it conveys the idea that the character is tough and won't be bothered about killing someone in a heartbeat, but it also helps to hide how incredible the character is at playing people like chess pieces on a board.
The thing with the ring was absolutely brilliant. First it's a symbol of running the mob, then it's a secret memento, then it's a demonstration of willingness to work with Maroni, and now it's the demonstration AND a plant to fool the Falcones into warring with Maroni.
Excellent writing and acting. I can't wait for the next episode.

This could end up being one of the best shows I have seen since Andor and Blue Eye Samurai.
Just fantastic.
First episode, hope they keep it going

Really enjoyed the episode, it's nice to get a look into his personal life. He's humanized in a monstrous way

I enjoyed it a lot. Now I have to decide whether I want to watch each episode as it releases or wait and let it build on Plex and watch it all at once.
Netflix really ruined scheduled tv when they started releasing whole seasons at once.

He’s mentioned in the first episode. As good as this is so far, I think it can stand alone without Batman or Catwoman showing up.
As the post said, no "characters" mentioned him.

Some really low rent CGI particularly with the cars...but I get it, budgets and all. And it's a little gauzy but it is a comic book so I suppose it "fits."
Otherwise excellent overall. I like the creepy daughter....she's great and menacing.

When the young kid was driving Oz around town Oz was looking out the window and said something like "look at what this madman did to this city." Don't know if he was referencing The Riddler or Batman. Could be he blames Batman for all of that.

Colin Farrell is seriously perfect in this.
Agreed, but really bizzarre. It's definitely got a Gandolfini vibe, but Colin is nothing like this. I realize he was in the movie--but you'd have thought there would be a better "base" archetype for this role.
Having said that--the makeup is incredible. I know it's Collin and just don't see Collin. Maybe in the eyes. But he's definitely doing a good job.
His fake face is more natural than Nicole Kidman's fricked up silicone face.

They do this to use the "buzz" from a good show to drum up some extra subscribers in that 10 days

After episode 2, I think we have had enough of showing Oz can think on his feet and make something out of nothing. Hope the rest of the season is actual plan unfolding and story, not just instance after instance of nothing going right. Overly suspenseful is not needed here.

I highly doubt that will be the case for the rest of the season, at least not every episode. But he's certainly going to be in some tricky situations given that he's now sided with Maroni and Sofia. As realistic as they are trying to make this universe, it's still a super hero universe so the suspense is always going to be bumped up a notch over a show like The Sopranos.
After the opening scene with Sofia in the therapists office and she's having a meltdown and the therapist was holding her. After all I could think of was the therapist was probably like...
