I took it to mean the same thing. I just have a problem with his being convinced that Shane killed Otis. It's not like Otis was 20-something athlete that didn't come back. He was a middle aged man going into the heart of zombie country carrying an extra 200 lbs on his frame.

seeing this thread is 14 pages long makes me think I made the right choice by setting my dvr to record the first 12 episodes

Yeah, the timing was the dumbest thing. Rick wasn't even in town yet when she decided someone needed to go find him. She didn't have any new info or anything.

Lori doing something stupid and selfish is entirely within her established character. It's not like it felt dishonest -- it felt like Lori is doing something stupid and selfish again. And I loved Daryl as a standin for the audience, telling her exactly how stupid she is and that his time would be better spent whittlin'. Literally.

quote:

It looks Rick will be held up in the bar for a while, so the writers could have at least let some time pass before having her get so concerned that she goes out on her own.

Well, we did see her panicked looking out the window. and going to Dale. She's just that impatient and stupid.

quote:

I also thought the farmer's daughter acted irrationally here. She didn't want Glenn going out? It was to find her father. Based on what we have seen thus far from her, her more natural reaction would be to insist on going with them.

She wasn't mad Glen was going to look for her dad. She was made she said "I love you" and he didn't say it back. They established that in the car scene.

People act irrational. That's wholly realistic. People do dumb things. Especially Lori.

To answer another comment in just one reply --

I agree. It's not the pace that bothers me, it's some of the stilted dialog. The show's greatest failing is that it takes time to settle in with characters, and it has largely failed to develop interesting characters. That's not a pacing problem, though. Shane and Glen are, by far, the two most interesting character and about hal the cast adds almost nothing. They could get eaten in the next episode and generate zero emotional response. Like, does anyone care what happens to T-Dawg? At all?

Not a stretch to think Dale figured it out. He's good at reading people.

Dale's backstory would be the best of the group. I hope we get some backstory on some of the characters and what sent on when Rick was in a coma.

Forgot about Dale. He is seriously starting to annoy the shite out of me. Still love Shane's and Rick's characters though. And hopefully we get more badass Daryl being a badass next episode

What did Dale mean when he said, "I've known men like Shane. He is going to kill again"?

Dale is about the right age. I think at some point it is going to come out that he was a Vietnam vet and a serious badass who was changed by the war. At some point he'll do something that will surprise everyone with how hardcore it is because none of them know his past.

=======================

Thought this was interesting. I actually thought the same thing but about Herschel's character. Everyone seems to dislike Herschel's soft stance in the ZA, however now that we see he has a different past than present it makes me wonder. It appears that Rick was starting to talk sense in him and he did realize he was living in the past and the present is a much different situation that needs to be handled as such. The bar scene only reinforced the situation.

My curiosity is how Herschel will go from here as a character. I was thinking he is a good age for Korea/Vietnam or maybe both. Was he always a preacher/Veterinarian? His soft stance was obviously related to the loss of his family. Will we see Herschel pop open the secret room and have a stock pile of old weapons ready to get things done. Would be fun to see the preacher go into protect the flock mode.

What triggered this was that Rick/Herschel seemed to immediately pick up the scent on the two in the bar while Glen initially acted very naive. We know Rick was a policemen so he was used to this however Herschel seemed to be step for step in the recognition even though he was drunk.

They are going to leave the farm but it's going to be because of a zombie attack or attacks from other survivors.

I got the feeling the "I love you" conversation happened while Rick watched just before he and Glenn left. I don't think that's why she was upset in the kitchen.

Overall decent episode. The last 10 minutes were awesome and felt a little like "Justified". Dale is definitely my least favorite character since last season. I wish they would develop the other characters a little more because it does seem like Rick, Shane, Lori, Glenn, Maggie, Daryll, and Herschel are the only ones who matter. All other cast members could be killed off with no consequence to the plot.

How long does T-Dawg last? Any takers? I say he separates from the group and you wonder if he survives rather than killing the only black guy.

He is easily the most forgettable character. Seems he is just a screen filler and only gets in situations that he needs saving.

I think Dale plainly means Shane is going to kill again.

We all know walking tubes of testosterone that would probably kill with little indescretion if not bound by society's laws. That's Shane. Everything about him cries "a-hole". He acts like an a-hole, he talks like an a-hole. He even freaking walks like an a-hole.

It's one thing to be an alpha male in a zombie apocolypse and another to be crude, rude, and without humanity in a time where if someone doesn't hold on to decency it will be lost. That's what makes Rick the perfect choice to lead.

My thoughts, thus far:

Shane still a hotheaded bad-arse. I love watching the cat and mouse game between him and Dale. Though I am bias because I side heavily with Shane and now can't' stand Dale at all.

Daryl has finally began to harden to the environment around him. He put everything into finding Sophia, and to see Carol completely lose faith has damaged his ego. He wasn't the hero he was trying to be, but instead sees now that he is seen (as Lori has shown him) that he just an errand-boy.

Lori as I said last season, still a stupid, selfish, irrational c**t. I really wish she and Carol would just f*cking die already.

Hershel, hated him.. but now it seems he as seen the errors (and stupidity) in his ways and knows now Rick and the group are his only hope to protect his family (what's left of it) and himself.

T-dawg... I cringe every time some one says his name. Just a place holder on the screen...

Carl... "I would have shot Sophia too" So it begins.

I think the biggest warning sign in the bar was Rick telling the fat guy to calm down.

Fats McGee: Bullsh*t

Rick: Calm Down

Fats McGee: Don't tell me to calm down, don't ever tell me to calm down. I'll shot you three @**holes in the head and take your d*mn farm.

I say Morgan and his son show up, save rick(again) at the bar or saves the group at some point at which time t-dog dies

At what point does Hershel become Herschel Walker?

Yeah, I know it was cheesy, but had to go there.

I was kinda thinking they might be setting up the Philly guys from the bar to be an example of what Shane could become if his path continues on it's trajectory.

I guess they could even contrast it with maybe Hershell being what Rick could become if he continued down his path.

But Rick capping those guys sort of threw both parts of that conjecture out of the window.

I think both Rick and Herschel's characters are about to change dramatically due to their environment. I'm very interested to see what direction they take it. Lori needs to get bit by a zombie in the flipped car turn to a zombie and have her own son shoot her when she returns to the farm and bites T-Dawg.

Yep, Dale's character has to make a major turn soon, or, as Shane said to him, "what do you do other than sit on top of that RV and watch the guns?". Maybe he'll be the one to cap Shane when Shane goes over the edge.

A storm's a'brewin', and I can't wait. It's like the waste of the first half of this season all built up to an amazing second half.

I watched the bar scene several times too...awesome.

Herschel Walker...best joke of the day.
