That's ridiculous. It doesn't have to be R rated to be good.
Nobody said it has to be R to be good. What we are saying is they could make an insanely good R movie.

Plus, it would alienate a massive percentage of potential viewers.
Other franchises are seeming to have some success with it.

quote:Not nearly as successful. People aren't going to bring their kids to see fricking titties in Star Wars.
And still be successful.
Or if you want to see edgier and darker, pick another movie. The whole "make it edgier" thing seems lazy and juvenile.

A very niche comic book character didn't have the same success as the reboot of one of the largest franchise series ever? No way!

Something like what they are doing with Logan is what a lot of people want to see. A one off movie that doesn't have to be part of the main story that really dives into the darker aspects of the story that are known, but have rarely been explored.

I want to see a detective thriller set on Coruscant

Should be the next scene of True Detective

Well, you're comparing Star Wars with R rated movies. What do you expect?
There are millions of people who will not bring kids to an R rated movie, and understandably so. In a franchise like Star Wars, that amounts to quite a lot of lost revenue. No one is going to take that loss just so you and Clint can get your rocks off.

Saw it yesterday morning. It was very good however I have a few minor complaints:
1. Too long - movie seemed to spin it's wheels at times and could have been 15-25 minutes shorter. They went too far out of their way to drive home the parts that everyone on Rouge One played a vital part in getting the mission accomplished. Really could have done without a lot of the convoluted logistical problems just for the sake of making a character's sacrifice more meaningful.
2. The score was good but less than I expected from a Star Wars movie.
Other than that, I thought it was the best Star Wars since Return of the Jedi. This was a Star Wars film more for adults and it was refreshing.

It's fine for other franchises, but Star Wars is just above such things. You make a movie around Vader hunting down Jedi between RotS and Rogue and that movie will make oodles of money, especially after the last 5 minutes of this movie.

just got out. my thoughts
Good- Loved the pace and action. The last scene when Vader lights the saber! I need a shot of that so i can FAP to it nonstop.
Great battles. Didnt mind the characters.
Bad- Good god the CGI on Leia and Tarkin. I dont understand why they couldnt have done a stand in or something. the makeup is amazing these days.
I wasnt blown away with the droid like everyone on here is. He had a few laughs but some were just forced. I dont get why every star wars must have a jolly amateur humored character for comic relief?
Overall a B+. A solid add to the franchise

quote:As an R rated movie, it would gross hundreds of millions less than if it were PG. That is not a difficult business decision.

I thought Tarkin CGI was good. Hell my wife thought it was a real actor that just looked like him even though she said the Leia CGI was bad .

The Leia was cringeworthy
I can live with the other

1. You have no way of knowing that for sure.
2. By that logic, since you want to use Deadpool, would it have made more money as a pg movie?
3. also by that logic, Disney must have made a poor business decision making rogue one not pg.

R doesnt have to include tits.
Quit bitching.

would it have made more money as a pg movie

Then there is no point to ever make an R rated movie ever.

Or maybe there is a place for R rated films while knowing they generally don't make as much as pg-13, pg, or g films
