Leia didn't seem noticeable to me
Tarkin for whatever reason was awful to me, we saw it 3D and IMAX so maybe that xausss the differences if no one else is thinking so.

Leia seemed a little off
So, this thread is full of people complaining about the CGI of Tarkin and Leia, yet it seems like Leia wasn't CGI at all...
quote:
Of all the sly references to the original Stars Wars films within Rogue One, there's one that you absolutely cannot miss. As the story wraps up, you see that the end of Rogue One flows seamlessly into the beginning of Episode IV — A New Hope. We find ourselves face to face with none other than Princess Leia, who receives the plans to the Death Star. It's a close-up shot, and while you don't see her long enough to study her, it definitely looks like an actual actress, and not a digitally re-created version of Carrie Fisher. (The filmmakers did use that technique, though, masterfully bringing back the late Peter Cushing as Grand Moff Tarkin.) So, who does play the Princess?
IMDb lists Norwegian actress Ingvild Deila. Though I wouldn't be inclined to blindly trust IMDb, I did some light stalking (calm down, nothing illegal) and found a tweet by the actress teasing, "Been keeping a big secret for quite a long time now but looks like it won't be for much longer." She shared this on Tuesday, three days before Rogue One's release. Then, the day the movie opened, she confirmed, "As a Star Wars fan I am incredibly thrilled, grateful and honoured to play Leia and be part of this beloved and amazing universe."

I read some of this thread before seeing the movie, but when I saw it; I thought they did a terrible job recreating Leia because she doesn't even look like Carrie Fisher in ANH. Then I read this article and saw why.
And Tarkin was obviously CGI, but it wasn't terrible. Some of you just like to bitch to bitch.

I was more annoyed with how they made his character. Heavily robotic and armored man with a breathing apparatus and a cape. Hmmm.....where have I seen that before? Plus his strained talking/accent just got on my nerves.
I think that was by design. Not sure if you watched the Clone Wars but Saw was trained by Anakin to fight an insurgency against the Separatists on his home world after the Empire he just refocused his efforts on fighting the Imperial occupation. I agree I think the reshoots took a lot of scenes from Saw. I think the idea originally behind Saw was that it would show how war destroys people no matter if your fighting the "good fight" (Saw) or the "bad" fight" (Vader). It would have been interesting to see Vader kill the man he trained to fight in the movie.

If you took it two minutes further, and went to IMDB yourself, you would see that there was an actor that played Tarkin as well. Someone has to stand there and act while the scene is going. It doesnt mask the fact that both characters were CGi'd onto those actors.

Am I the only one that wishes Felicity Jones was Rey. She's a great female lead.

No. Daisy Ridley is solid as Rey.

I agree. Daisy is really good as Rey. The thought of someone being better never occurred to me until I saw Rogue One.

Yea, I watched it. I kind of get that, but IMO it wasn't pulled of well at all. He just seemed unoriginal. They could have pulled it off other ways. Not a huge point or anything, just something that irked me.

God no. I had a hard enough time believing she was acompetent fighter in this character. Rey's character would have been completely unbelievable.

Agreed, Ridley is superior to Jones, IMO. I'm not the biggest fan of TFA, but I did really like Rey's character.

Nah, Daisy Ridley is perfectly cast. She'll be a big star one of these days.
And does anyone remember the ad campaign that Daisy Ridley wasn't a real woman because she wasn't fat enough?

Just got back. Wow, I totally loved this movie. I was moved emotionally in the same way as I was during VII. I felt none of that in any moment of I- III.
I was 10 when I saw Star Wars. My son sitting next to me at the movie today is 10. He loved it.

The single greatest film of all time.

Saw it today.
Good not great IMO and reinforced to me how truly great TFA was.
Way Better than Ep I and II ahead of III (I liked III) behind OT and TFA
Strengths:
Vader Scene
Obviously last battle
Frankly I thought Tarkin CGI was incredible (had not intentionally not read anything about this film and wanted to have an open mind) and was trying to figure out how the guy was still alive until I read this thread
Thought the new locations in the overall universe were interesting
Overall the storyline was very good
Weaknesses:
Individual character development however that wasnt the point of the movie IMO The trilogies are there to develop the character arcs this was to tell the story of how we got episode 4
I HATED K2 frankly. I really like Tudyk but not EVERY single line from the droid has to be comedy and it felt out of place with the rest of the movie-what is essentially a star wars war film
Felicity Jones was ok and reinforced how good Daisy Ridley is to carry the rest of the new trilogy
Diego Luna was boring and given the similar time and roles Oscaar Issac did a far better job with Poe Dameron
Definitely thought this was a good sign of things to come for stand alone films
Overall I agree with RT if Empire is a 94 ROTS is a 79 TFA is a 92 this is an 84.

There was some CGI there. No way that was 100% human.

Some of us do, but when it comes to the Star Wars franchise, we expect the absolute best in special effects. Tarkin and Leia in this film fell way below expectations.

After watching this film twice now, I feel it's better than The Force Awakens.
The tone, obviously, is quite different. Even though the film still contains the expected lighthearted brand of Star Wars humor, it's certainly not present as much as it was in TFA (in which it actually became a detriment near the end of the film). These characters feel mature, and their choices and decisions carry a certain weight. You feel as though their action, or inaction, matters. And you feel that what they're going up against is formidable and imposing.
I didn't feel any of that during TFA. Looking back on it now, it feels like a bunch of Dinsey kids dressing up and playing Star Wars in their backyard.
Rogue One is disjointed for the first 20 or so minutes, but it really does come together nicely. There really isn't a super low moment of the film, as it just gradually just builds until the final act. And just when you think it's over, you get the Vader scene. The dogfights were the most technically impressive in any Star Wars film yet, and overall had a strong sense of purpose.
Conversely, the dogfights in TFA certainly didn't have the same gravitas to them, nor were they as technically impressive. The Rathtar scene in TFA is also an incredibly low point for the film - at this point I just fast forward thought it whenever I'm re-watching it. I can't find an analogous low point in Rogue One - it just continues to cohesively come together and then delivers on the final act.
I think Rian Johnson certainly has his work cut out for him. He really needs make Snoke, Kylo, and the First Order priority #1. Snoke is far too important to this trilogy, and in TFA, he came across as a forgettable, generic bad guy with cliched lines. There has to be some development with this character if the trilogy is going to improve.

Agree but I wish I could find the first trailer or teaser. I could swear he was a part of the early fight scenes at Jedda City with blind guy.
ETA:
Lots of early trailer material didn't make final cut

They were both pretty obvious, but even my wife said Tarkin looked bad.
