So titanic never had to deal with summer movies competing with it each week which is why it held #1 for so long!

Not Speedy but I got this off www.the-numbers.com

quote:

The Dark Knight broke the $400 million barrier on Monday, according to Warner Bros.' estimate. Early figures put Batman's tally for the day at $6.28 million, which takes its cumulative gross to $400,031,000 in just 18 days, a remarkable 25 days faster than Shrek 2, the previous record holder (see the chart). We'll have final daily numbers around noon Pacific.

That is part of the reason. The other reasons were teenage girls and word of mouth. I saw Titanic in late February (it had been out for over two months) and the theater was packed. I bet the front half of theater's average age was 16/17.

I think it will dip hard when school starts again. Fortunately, the kids up here don't go back until September.

That's over 22 million a day, most movies are lucky if they ever make that in a day.

$5,077,367 on Wednesday

Domestic Total as of Aug. 6, 2008: $410,777,101
Still 7th all time. To get to 3rd all time needs to get to $441,226,248

Unless it makes over 1,300,000,000.00, it will not "actually" catch Star Wars. And that is only for the "actual" second place of all time. Gone with the wind is even higher.
