The show should have ended when Jim and Pam got married. That was the central plot line that everyone cared about, and when that story finished, there wasn't anything major keeping the show together. Pair this with Michael leaving, and the show really struggled to find a clear direction for a while until it settled on the Dwight and Angela story.
Still though, it was a phenomenal show. One of my favorites.

First four seasons are great.
It started falling off whenever the Michael Scott Paper Company storyline with Idris Elba pops up. Not saying there weren’t funny episodes but it seemed like from that point onwards the writing was throwing everything at the wall to see what stuck.
Season 5 is great, IMO. I think it starts to fall off with the Sabre storyline in Season 6. And I don't even bother with the final 2 seasons.

Once Michael leaves it takes a major nosedive.
Has a show ever successfully replaced its main character? Seems like a few shows have tried and it just falters. 2 and a half men is another example of a show that just goes to crap after the main actor moves on.

I really enjoyed the arc where Michael started his own paper company

I thought they rallied in the last season and it was pretty good, leading up to the finale, which was really good. I agree that the prior season's after Michael's departure were awful.

I binged watched this about 3 months ago as I had never seen it. Great show!! My favorite episode was probably the one about diversity.

Where do you go to meet someone like this?
Only a big penis would do that.
That’s what she said.

When Michael started dating Pam’s mom and Pam turned into an insufferable bitch for the rest of the series. The Jim and Pam wedding could have been a series finale.

IMO. the worst thing that happened was Ed Helms' success in The Hangover. He was a great "Office character" that was perfect in small doses. They tried to turn him into Michael Scott and it just didn't work.
Actually, I think you could make a case for Andy and Dwight to be "Reverse Flanderized."

You missed out on all of the "British original was so much better" condescension.
I heard about the UK Office from a friend, like some underground club for those that found it and treated it like discovering a new unknown band.
When the US Office premiered, they treated it like snobs would treat a Cover band.
US version was gonna be a lame sellout facsimile, butchered by Hollywood, so was the view...it was a shock to them that the US version pulled off the heist and made it their own after the 1st season. I prefer the US version for the long haul.

That is just a British thing, was talking with a friend from London about this very thing. He admitted he was in the camp that the UK version was superior at first but fully admits the american version is actually better.
Just finished watching The Office: Superfan Edition Season 8 Episode 7 "Pam's Replacement" and the jam session with Robert California is just god awful.

This is all post-Jim/Pam wedding. The entire series for 3 seasons was based on will they/won't they get together. 6 seasons would have been a great run. Make the wedding the series finale.

Didn’t watch until the Comedy Central years but good show despite terrible character development,
I hope Prison Mike pushes your arse against the wall.

Criminal Minds replaces Gideon with Rossi but that was after only like one or two seasons I believe
