Or he was never Achilles to begin with and you're just doing mental gymnastics to save face

Nope. She's playing the role Achilles filled in the book. No two ways about it.

I just read the movie starts out by showing some African rapper with rasta garb on in the role of a Greek poet. What's the purpose of casting someone with rasta in the Greek world?

Destruction of history according to Nolan

Aside from the fact that what Achilles had to talk to Odysseus about in the Underworld has absolutely nothing to do with what Sinon talked to Odysseus about, yeah. Her character fills in for Achilles in the Hades scene.

The way this was handled makes it seem like they changed the name after it leaked so they could say "see? She's not Achilles!"

If you’ve actually seen the movie you would know this makes no sense. They would have had to re-shoot a bunch of scenes.

The problem is, most of the people parroting this line in this thread haven't seen the movie. They are relying solely on X users who were hate watching the film because they viewed it as "woke" due to the casting.

The Odyssey has received a grade of an A by CinemaScore.

Other films that received the same grade that were directed by Christopher Nolan are as follows:

- Oppenheimer (2023)
- The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
- The Dark Knight (2008)
- Batman Begins (2005)

Is Sinon talking to Odysseus about the death of Achilles?

The blacks running around in 1,500 BC Greece really took me out of the immersion Nolan worked so hard to achieve with everything else. May as well have a Muppet running around in the background.

Very cool movie overall though. That last battle scene was awesome.

As an entire film, enjoyable. Him coming home to his dog and the last battle were great. I would’ve been really excited to see it before Nolan bowed to his masters. Hades could’ve been done so much better, I would’ve liked to see the green river, etc. and without Page of course

like you said, the immersion is broken in so many critical scenes and it completely takes you out of it because of his political choices. Unfortunate, it won’t be one I ever rewatch

I will say the Dolby experience was loud as shite and vibrated way more than normal, I hope nobody had epilepsy because of the storm scenes. It isn’t typically that loud (I go all the time for new releases so I noticed a difference)—I wonder if the theater turned it up for this movie?

I won’t say there was nothing good in this movie, but a hell of a lot of cringe

Correct one poster has said that. It’s incorrect as the other poster pointed out but it’s one guy. This is another tactic, take one or two people and turn them into anyone who doesn’t agree with your opinion 100%. Again only goes one way and comes from one side. It’s always you people and it’s always dishonest.
