While he did tell her earlier in the movie that she was going to die, I think a little bit of his humanity seeped in from one former lowly service worker in him when he worked fast food to another lowly service worker, her a prostitute. Additionally, she was never supposed to be there, every guest that was invited was carefully chosen because they had wronged him or other people in some way whereas she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time

This exactly how I see the way the ending was.

I liked the movie. Great satire. The only bump it hit was the end, for me. I wasn’t sure why they so easily played along and were even saying “we love you, chef” as if suddenly part of the cult. I also didn’t quite get why Margot decided to stop the boat and watch everything go down. The shot of the reflection of the burning cabin in her eyes made her look evil and I didn’t think that was at all the intent.

Just finished it and thought it was pretty good but definitely not something I’d be hyped to rewatch as it’s kind of slow to start. Wasn’t sure what to expect going into other then that Anya Taylor-Joy was in it and she’s become my favorite new actor or I guess newish since she’s been around since 2015

I do have this complaint. The three frat daddies should have been able to stick together and kick some kitchen staff arse.

I had that thought as well, especially when every dude ran in separate directions. Why wouldn't you team up with your buddies?

She doesn't have big eyes.. Just way too far apart from normal which make her alien like. She makes it work though

The first 30 minutes were great and hilarious. Then it just got ridiculous and totally over-the-top unrealistic.

Only watched it because of her because Queen's Gambit is one of the best things in awhile.

Had high hopes.

I loved it. Laughed my arse off at Tyler’s bullshite, and several other scenes.

I mean it did show them as selfish assholes so I get it not crossing their minds.

But if I’m in a situation where I know I’m dying that night, I’ll team up with Joe Biden and/or Donald Trump (pick your enemy) to survive.

Just finished it. Was expecting more of a horror/thriller but I got to admit I laughed my arse off several times. Enjoyed it. Glad I caught for free on HBO.

Started off great, but gradually got worse! Had such a great premise and it could’ve/should’ve been so much better.

Same reason why in a horror movie a family would not fight for their life against a group of serial killers. All of the kitchen staff is armed theya re not, they resigned to die.

Really good. I wish I had watched it sooner (labeling it "horror" threw me off and I assumed they'd eat people for some reason).

2 complaints. Relatively small.

1. The weird right with the Asian lady was not necessary at all and was out of place.

2. I wish Margot/Erin had not seen the news clipping of him cooking a hamburger before she ordered one. It would have been a lot more organic and impactful (especially for her character not being one of the sinners) to show the rejection of pretension and losing yourself and just order a cheeseburger (with American cheese, no less, which would never be in a restaurant like that )

Told you.

I had to doublecheck because when I saw the bump and that it was SFP, it triggered.

me either. It’s a dark dark comedy. A hint of suspense at most.

I primarily made the post because you recommended it. I've been watching a lot of movies lately and not posting about them all.

This movie was like someone trying to make a normie version of a Yorgos Lanthimos movie, being a lot more direct while hitting you on the head with the message. And I say that with respect and not to insult it.

That's why reading some of these threads on The Menu and seeing people not get it while having it thrown in their face was kind of funny.

Like I said I had 2 main criticisms and they were relatively minor.

The people trying to theorize that she died from a hamburger that was left to age 1 day too long are....well silly. .

I don't now. Not at all.

I saw it reviewed online as a horror movie initially and I rarely have the taste for horror-comedy. This was just satire/dark comedy and nowhere near horror.

People try to make everything some artistic/elevated horror these days, though, so it's not shocking.

Fair enough. I know I can give you hell over political stuff but this was just a fun movie that I was shocked you hadn’t seen given your tastes I’ve seen on this board.

That’s really my only jam when it comes to horror. I’m small potatoes when compared to some on this board but I have a strong aversion to horror. The only one I could stomach in this field is Ready or Not.

I just simply do not like gore. There’s plenty of scenes on something as mild as GoT that I turned my head for.
