It's nothing like those movies. It's a wholly unique experience that's a joy watching it play out. I do agree, the ending is a little subpar but the journey to get there is worth it. Love the dark humor and the characters are fun to watch if a bit one note.

I am about an hour into it right now. For the first 40 minutes it prattles on about food, and then when that thing happens at that 40th minute, I was like oh shite

Reminded me of my mom….

Kudos to the writers who created a sick, twisted, and original story by using foodie culture and the 5 star chefs behind the dishes as the theme.

It wasn’t groundbreaking in any sense but just original enough to think back to a time when it was popular for Moms to declare that movies and music were being created by these “Hollywood sickos who worship the Devil” oblivious to the social commentary that went deeper than just the shocking deaths on screen.

I did appreciate that they didn’t look to turn Anya Taylor Joy into superheroine by keeping her role more practical than if she took out the entire restaurant by herself.

I probably won’t remember this film in a year. As someone else said, it’s not really worth a second watch. But at least I didn’t feel like it was a movie I force-fed myself to watch because there was nothing from the unwatchable “Jeremy’s Mess” on the tv menu that we’re used to.

Started off really slow and thought the ending was odd, but still I enjoyed the movie. Thought Ralph Fiennes was excellent.

i enjoyed it. fairly "meta" i guess i'd say.

*** not too spoilerish below, but kinda ***

for what the trailers were, i expected a bit more of an exciting finale with more violent deaths, albeit, the one displayed was mostly satisfying. i don't like on-screen violence, but it seemed more in tune to what the trailers made it out to be.

there was something to be said about acknowledging your shortcomings and moral misgivings and accepting your fate. i could appreciate that. the quote above best encapsulates it:

Chef Slowik: Where did you go to school?
Felicity: Brown.
Chef Slowik: Student loans?
Felicity: No.
Chef Slowik: Sorry, you're dying.

I loved it. Even the ending the chocolate hats and marshmallow vests cracked me up and the way everyone had just accepted that they are gonna die. It was a weird movie not easy to make but i thought they nailed it.

Great casting too.

Took itself too serious.
The movie mocks foodie culture, there's really nothing serious about it. I was cracking up during the whole thing, and Fiennes description of s'mores at the end was hilarious.

SPOILERS.......................

I just finished it and I found it interesting that a lot of people online are questioning whether "Margot" actually dies at the end from eating the burger. Earlier in the movie, Elsa explains how you die if you eat their aged beef at 152 days instead of 153, and some think that's a hint that the chef actually poisoned her with the burger.

When Elsa said that I thought she was just giving a wiseass answer to a douchebag asking a dumb question, but the director also confirmed that she did not die from the burger. An interesting fan theory nonetheless.

I went into it thinking it would be a horror movie and was a bit disappointed, but I do appreciate it as satire and a dark comedy. Definitely laughed in several scenes (e.g. when he started quoting MLK ).

This was goddamn terrible.

A brainwashed kitchen staff like a cult and no one can escape and hide on a remote island from a bunch of cooks.

I hated every thing about this movie. The characters were just awful and Tyler was the worst one.

I guess if it’s a satire on foodies, sure, had its parts where there was a chuckle but man that was bad.

Spoilers:

You couldn’t run away from the middle aged Asian hostess, but the ticket to get away alive was to review his cheeseburger that he missed cooking.

Going in I was expecting a sort of Foodie version of:

A psychological thriller where there's puzzles to survive.

Instead its just sheep along for the ride.

Like? That was a cult bud. Call em Church of the Lamb Chop.

And Tyler was the foodies in the audience.

Alluding from the start that Tyler isn’t a notable guest. Posting every plate they’re served as if food is an experience. Owning kitchen tools and appliances that belong in a chemistry lab more than they do in a kitchen. Talking down to anyone who doesn’t “understand” a dish while pretending to love ones that mock them bc they paid $1,250 to eat a restaurant that serves dipping oils with no bread. That sir is satirical mockery at its finest. Just absolutely…Iambic.

It was a nice change of pace that they didn’t have her John McClain her way out of there like they did with Samara Weaving in Ready or Not.

[sarcasm face on] It was a triumphant victory for the everyday wo/man who used her cunning abilities she’s earned as a…..service industry worker (HOOKER) to outsmart the psycho eunuch.

That did look like a tasty burger.

Spoilers

The internet theories on the burger:

"Putting two patties on the grill, one is reminded of the two people that killed themselves in the kitchen early on—Tyler and Slowik's sous-chef.". Ergo, she ate them...which is why he let her go. Whatever.

Or alternatively, she ate meat that would kill her as foreshadowed in the beginning that any meat aged past 125 days is lethal. So that's we he let her go...because the meat served was...well, past diners.
