Who asked for this movie and who gives a shite about it?

Sorry about your little weiner.

Pretty silly thing to say. The first one made over a billion. This one will likely flop, but a sequel was always going to happen.

Sandwiched in between Infinity War & End Game, it was pitched as the primer to Captain Marvel's character and a MUST SEE.
It was mid, at best. And they changed the title to CM 2 to The Marvels...
Disney Marvel is fricked.

Turning on the first one now

A test pattern with the Marvel
Studios vanity plate was printing money at that time.
There are a few problems with this particular movie though…
1. Generally unknown / niche characters to the general public in Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau
Rambeau’s heyday was in the 1980s Avengers and in Nextwave, neither of which are exactly mainstream.
Kamala is more recent but has a far more cult audience than a lot of other heroes.
None of this is helped by both characters being introduced to the MCU within D+ exclusive shows as opposed to getting the rub from Nick Fury like Carol Danvers did.
2. Brie Larson is thoroughly unlikeable on screen and in public
She was supposed to be one of the standard bearers of the 4th phase of the MCU and it hasn’t really taken for a variety of reasons. And calling out the people who are vocalizing that isn’t making them seem petty or sexist, it is bringing more attention to the problems with Larsen and the direction of the MCU.
3. Captain Marvel’s power set is so horribly overpowered that it is hard to have an interesting movie with her.
It is considered “story-breaker power” because there are few if any limits on her and it makes it hard to believe the story wouldn’t be over in 10 minutes if not for bad writing.
Contrast that with the likes of Thor, Hulk, Drax, Groot, etc, who all have drawbacks to their powers and/or psyche that can result in drama being able to take place.
4. This is tied to #1 but moving heavily to the D+ shows for phase 4 has killed a lot of the “must see” aura around the MCU between some poorly done shows (Captain America and the Winter Soldier for one) and just plain overexposure by constantly having something going on rather than having anticipation of the next thing build.
This is not helped by several other things such as going heavy on the obscure heroes (Shang Chi, Eternals, etc) and the total loss of momentum caused by Covid bumping Black Widow for months then sending it straight to D+.
Bringing back the original crew like Chris Evans is a band aid over bigger problems at this point. They need to figure out what the frick they are doing for the rest of this phase and the next phase or two then line up interesting characters and stories to pull it off.
A reheated version of Operation Galactic Storm, which is where the warp-switch fight from The Marvels’ trailer came from, is not necessarily a winner.

Dude! You just don’t get it. It’s called The Marvels with an “s”! The three superheroes are females! Two of them are People of Color!!! How cool is that?
Bet you feel pretty dumb right about now.

A movie with characters no one gives a shite about starting an actress no one likes.
What could go wrong?

Don't worry, it will do 200 million like last time and shut up all the haters. Last time I hated Captain marvel and refuse to see it. I know better now.
Fare warning, , I supported Flash , Shazam, Man of Steel when it first came out, most DC movies, and even enjoyed Joss Whedon justice league. I fully support the Marvels!
