Down 55% from season 1 finale but still a big number.
Yikes. Tells me the viewership for the episodes they haven't released the numbers on yet are probably pretty bad. Doubt they are happy with losing over half their viewers from a year ago.
Just reading the comments since I stopped watching, I'm glad I did.

Thats only live viewers. It was a holiday weekend and there waa an NBA playoff game. They said viewers are up from 32 million to 37 million per episode for this season.

37 million globally for season 2 compared to 32 million in the US alone for season 1. It’s an apples-to-oranges comparison.
ETA: Take it from Warner Bros Discovery themselves:
quote:
Season 2 is tallying nearly 37 million global viewers per episode and growing.
quote:
As previously reported, the first season of the series concluded with 32 million U.S. cross-platform viewers at 90 days post-premiere.

My wife kept watching with me, but she said literally all of her friends ditched it after *the* episode with Joel.

Dang! That's too bad, they missed the proud moment when Ellie found out she was going to be a dad.

Youre also comparing 90 days post premiere numbers with day after finale premiere numbers. Would expect that 37 million number to rise pretty significantly in the next 3 months to above 50 million.
There have been 90 million global views since season 1 ended.
Regardless, its pretty clear the audience is massive

I did not consciously stop watching this show, it just happened organically. I was watching Episode 7, had to stop in the middle and never made time to finish it and just kind of forgot about the rest of the season until I saw a headline today.
To me, a person organically falling off of the show is worse than someone who says "I'm sick of X,Y, and Z so I am out!" That person got triggered and made at least a somewhat emotional decision not to watch. Someone who falls off like I did, had no emotional reaction, the show was just so forgetable that I basically forgot. Not saying that there weren't triggering things about the show but I literally just got bored and forgot the show existed. Thats embarrassing for those fart sniffers that do the after show and act like its all so artistic.

You never finished season 1 you mean?

No I must have the number mixed up. I thought there were 8 epidoes in season 2. I stopped mid penultimate season 2. The flash back episode. I thought season 1 was a good show.

Yea I mean that's pretty bad. I stopped watching just because I don't watch bad TV and it became comically bad. If the writing sucks in a show I'm not going to watch, There is just too much good TV out there to waste time on bad shows with bad acting and uninteresting characters.
Also, listening to these dweebs talk after the show made it much easier to tune out. I've never seen people more full of themselves than the people running this show.

I struggled to finish. As someone who loved the game but went in with an open mind, it just isn't holding me. She can't carry the series as a lead, just doesn't hold you.

I agree, but I still think the writing was the bigger issue. Like her scene on scar Island...what was the point of that scene? They captured her, hung her, and then just released her and she continued on her mission lol.

yeah that was pointless

Does that mean Dina’s baby will be immune? I guess we don’t really know if that passes on since there is just one immune person.

Youre also comparing 90 days post premiere numbers with day after finale premiere numbers.
Sure, that’s another reason it’s a pointless apples-to-oranges comparison. But you’re the one saying “they are up” viewers from season 1 based on that same invalid comparison.
By the way, I found a similar WBD press release from the season 1 finale that said they were averaging 30.4 million US viewers per episode. So that’s two snapshots taken at the same point in time that show 30.4 million US viewers for s1 compared to 37 million global viewers for s2.
quote:
Would expect that 37 million number to rise pretty significantly in the next 3 months to above 50 million.
Looking at the same season 1 release I linked above - after 90 days from the premiere, the US number went up ~5% from 30.4 million to 32 million. But you think the season 2 global numbers will go up ~35% over the same time frame? Based on what?
Reality is that all signs point to season 2 underperforming season 1 significantly in the US. With all of the obfuscation by WBD, the same-day viewing numbers are the only apples-to-apples data points available. That data shows that:
1. The s2 premiere outperformed the s1 premiere by 13%.
2. The s2 finale underperformed the s1 finale by a whopping 55%.
WBD can blame Memorial Day weekend, and I’m sure it had some impact. But 55%? No way.
If WBD had released the same-day viewing numbers for each episode, we could probably make an actual comparison. For some reason they haven’t.. wonder why that might be.
In terms of IMDB ratings, season 2 episodes rank:
- #3 (S2E2)
- #8 (S2E6)
- #12 (S2E1)
- #13 (S2E5)
- #14 (S2E3)
- #15 (S2E7)
- #16 (S2E4)
.. of 16 total episodes to-date. 5 of the 7 episodes in season 2 were rated lower on IMDB than any episode in season 1.
You can blame review bombing, or Memorial Day, or whatever else, but at some point you’re just sticking your fingers in your ears and saying “nuh uh!” That doesn’t mean I think it’s getting cancelled - I mean they’ve already announced renewal. It doesn’t even mean I think it was necessarily bad financially for WBD. But I do think they lost a lot of viewers over the course of the season.

No. Warner Bros/HBO is the one saying that
Nowhere in that press release (which I already linked in this thread) does it say viewership is higher for season 2 than season 1.

HBO Original THE LAST OF US has seen a major influx of viewers to the TV series with global audience upon the arrival of Season 2 exceeding over 90 million since season one ended.
Influx means the number of viewers is going up with the release of season 2.
combine that with
quote:
Season 2 is tallying nearly 37 million global viewers per episode and growing.
and none of that implies that the audience is shrinking from Season 1's audience
